War concerns lead party official to her decision
Hillary Clinton picked up the support Thursday of a previously uncommitted Washington state superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention, giving her bid for the party's presidential nomination a boost just before a weekend that could prove critical to her flickering chances.
The endorsement by Eileen Macoll, the vice chairwoman of the state Democratic Party, halts a recent pattern of Washington superdelegates lining up behind Clinton's rival for the nomination, Barack Obama. It also means that Macoll has set herself apart from the state party chairman, Dwight Pelz, who endorsed Obama May 19 and called on Democrats to rally behind Obama.
"I think Hillary Clinton would be the best commander in chief to get us out of this mess in Iraq," Macoll said. Macoll said she was spurred to announce her endorsement by her reaction to Memorial Day. "I just got very emotional this Memorial Day weekend," she said. "This war just makes me sick."...
