2008 GOTV opportunities in WA
Got these in an email--please post others

Young People in Washington State

Washington Bus Project. What I love about the Bus is that they speak a language I don’t—to kids who would roll their eyes at me. Thomas Goldstein, the director is an absolute star—warm, passionate, profoundly ethical, and tireless.

Young People in Swing States

The League of Young Voters is doing youth organizing in PA, MN, FL, OH and other swing states. Their work was featured by the Quixote Foundation at their Progressive Innovations retreat, which features what Quixote saw as some of the most promising programs in the country. Great folks.

Eastern Washington

Eastern Washington Voters is a teeny, tenacious Pullman- based org that does doorbelling and outreach round the calendar. Truly working with pennies.

1. National Guarantee Your Vote Day 10/1
Can you help us make sure everyone can vote on Election Day?

Dear America In Solidarity volunteers:Remember how voter suppression kept thousands of voters from the polls in Florida in 2000? And look what happened.Remember how voter suppression kept thousands of voters from the polls in Ohio in 2004? And look what happened. Can we keep this from happening in 2008? We're working on a project called "National Guarantee Your Vote Day" on October 1st. Working with community groups and organizations, we are going to conduct a media blitz and day of awareness to let voters know they should check with local voting officials to make sure they are on the voting rolls on November 4th. Overzealous party officials are working to suppress voters, especially African-Americans and students. Our goal is to keep this from happening. You'll learn more about this project next week, but I need some help in the mean time. I need some volunteers to do some web research and help contact people in your area. If you can give a few hours, please reply to this email or call our office at 253-471-1123.Thanks,Todd IversonAmerica In Solidarity

Saturday, September 20
9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Download the Sept. 20 walk flier with details contact information, and post it at your union hall, office or workplace.

Volunteers will be dispatched into neighborhood to deliver printed information to union households explaining how labor-endorsed candidates earned our endorsement and where they stand on the issues
that matter. There are brief training sessions at the beginning of each shift.

If you aren't available on Saturday, there are also plenty of other walks and phone banks happening -- both on weekdays and weekends -- throughout September. Just check out the Labor Neighbor schedule, and
then VOLUNTEER!

5. 10/5 and 10/12--state Dems GOTV trainings
We are 32 days from a historic election that will decide our next President and Governor. In 14 days, Washingtonians will start to receive their ballots and the election will begin in our state. Americans are already casting their ballots in other critical swing states like Virginia, Iowa and Ohio.

We have to wage a massive Get Out the Vote operation to reelect Gov Gregoire, elect Barack Obama President, and elect Democrats to Congress and our state legislature.

This Sunday 10/5 and next Sunday 10/12 at 12 pm, our campaign staff will host trainings in our 20 offices across the state to talk about our plan to get out the vote in Washington.

As a party leader, we need your support and your help to make this a reality. Please attend one of the GOTV trainings on 10/5 and 10/12 and pass this information along to your lists. You can find information and RSVP here:

http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/GoTraining

For five months, you have worked with our campaign staff across the state to organize canvasses, phonebanks, and campaign events in every corner of Washington. We have made half a million phone calls, and knocked on nearly as many doors in the last five months, but it's nothing compared to what lies ahead of us in the next 32 days. Please attend one of the trainings so that we are prepared to tackle these 32 days together.

If you have any questions or comments about Get out the Vote in your community, please contact one of the four Regional Field Directors who manage the field staff in Washington:

· NW Washington (Snohomish, Whatcom, Island, San Juan, Skagit): Brooke Brod, brooke {at} wa-democrats.org
· King County: Grant Lahmann, grant{at} wa-democrats.org
· Central and Eastern Washington: Erik Horeis, Erikh {at} wa-democrats.org
· South Sound and Southwest Washington: Dustin Lambro, dustin {at} wa-democrats.org

6. Phonebanking for Equal Rights Washington
Equality in Washington State Depends on you: Make History and be a Phone Bank Hero

E-mail david{at} equalrightswashington. org or call 206-324-2570 to get involved!

Never in our past has Equal Rights Washington undertaken a political action as ambitious as this. Our GOAL is for every ERW supporter to receive a personal phone call encouraging them to vote for Equality Legislative Candidates in their district, and to re-elect Governor Chris Gregoire. Polls show that the governor's race could again be decided by just a few votes.

We're working around the clock until election day: you can join us during your lunch hour, in the afternoon, or in the evening or on a Saturday!

You can even call from the comfort of your own home- contact us to find out how!

So whatever time you can give weather its an hour or several shifts over the next two weeks, get in touch with us. It's fun, its important and together we can make a difference.

E-mail david {at} equalrightswashington. org or call 206-324-2570 to get involved!

All indications are that Gregoire's opponent, Dino Rossi, would veto any new state legislation designed to empower domestic partnerships, or even seek to roll back important civil rights the LGBT community have gained. Please be sure to talk to your friends and family about the importance of voting for Chris Gregoire. This is the time to make your voice heard and join us in this historic campaign!

We're calling from the ERW office
Monday through Friday 12-3pm (come in for your lunch hour)
Monday through Thursday 5:30-8:45 (Pizza served every night)
Saturdays 2-6

Call from home anytime from 10am till 8:45pm 7 days a week

Thanks for being involved,

David Walega

ERW Field Manager

What's that you say? You'd really like to do phonebanking, but can't make make it into the ERW Office? No worries, we can actually hook you up to do phonebanking from the convenience of your own home. Contact david{at} equalrightswashington.org for directions and log-in info.

8. Help needed with the Native American Vote project
Hello Seattle Dems, I am a volunteer with the Obama campaign in Sno Co, but work at the Tulalip Tribes, Quilceda Village. They want to do a first ever poll of Native Americans at their upcoming national conference in Seattle- see the message below. It sounds like a unique opportunity.

Can you respond to them with a cc to me, so I know that something happened or not? Thanks

Hi Alison, We welcome your assistance for the conference. Let me know what works for you.

Subject: Native American opinion poll on the Presidential race

HELP! WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

Native Vote Washington will be attending the National Indian Education Association's annual convention in Seattle this Thursday through Sunday. We are trying to do something historic -- that is conduct the first ever national Native American opinion poll on the Presidential race. The size of the convention -- 3,000 + attendees -- is what makes this possible. But it also means we need help getting people to answer the survey. Ideally, we are looking for about 10 to 12 volunteers to help us man the outside convention space and our booth with clipboards and surveys and ask convention-goers to take 1 minute to fill out the form. We will provide T-shirts for our volunteers and some food. Our goal is to get between 600 and 800 responses.

If you can donate a couple of hours for a historic cause, it would make a huge difference in the way the media and political campaigns treat Indian Country! And besides it's NIEA, the largest annual convention of Natives in the country, so you'll be sure to meet lots of wonderful people!

We need volunteers during the following dates and times:

Thursday, Oct. 23rd, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 24th, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 25th 9:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m.

LOCATION: WA State Convention Center, 7th & Pike Streets, downtown Seattle

Please decide to help us out and contact - Renee Swan Waite: r.swanwaite {at} gmail.com ; 360-920-7745, or Chris Stearns at cstearns {at} hobbsstraus.com ; 206-902-6680

12. Online links for GOTV
Dear Neighborhood Leaders,

Thanks to your efforts, we've been able to meet 85% of our goal for volunteers participating in Get Out the Vote (GOTV) shifts. As you know, volunteers getting out making phone calls and knocking on doors are the key activities in these last few days that will help us get every Obama supporter to cast their ballot to bring change to Washington. If each Neighborhood Leader signs up for one additional GOTV shift, we can meet our total volunteer goal for GOTV shifts. Please help us by signing up for one additional GOTV shift today at a campaign office near you:

http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/WAGOTVShifts/. If you can't make it to your local campaign office, you can still help by making phone calls from home or going door to door in your neighborhood with the Neighbor to Neighbor program:

http://my.barackobama.com/modules/votercontact/login_signup.php. Thank you so much for all of your support so far. Your efforts are critical to our success in November. Best,

16. Trick or Vote on 10/31
Do you have your costume picked out yet? It is time for the biggest costumed canvass Washington has ever known! Here is what you need to know:

Trick-or-Vote on Halloween (Friday). Trick-or-Vote, the spookiest, fake-bloodiest, most bone-chilling voter canvass of the election season, is tomorrow night! Join Democrats Work, the Washington Bus, and a host of ghouls and goblins as we make sure that everyone casts their votes by doorbelling on Halloween. Everyone will meet at the Caffe Vita warehouse on Capitol Hill in Seattle on Friday. There are two shifts -- one at 3:30 p.m. and one at 5:30 p.m. -- and then one big (really big) after party. Sign up today by clicking here: http://www.trickorvote.org/. (You gotta sign up so we know you'll be there!)

17. Benton County opportunities
Here in the Benton County HQ, we are doing "Trick or Vote" from 3-5. This is a strip mall where thousands of kids come to safely trick or treat, and we are prepared for the kids and their parents. And some of us (ok, me) are in costume (cheerleader!). We will have several TV interviews surround this event.

Lit dropping is the priority this weekend, along with getting out remaining signs. We still have hundreds of signs in the offices!

Planning for election night will be out of the closet later this afternoon. The quick details:

4th Congressional District Election Night Party (that's all 10 counties!) Red Lion Pasco Ballroom
Hosted by Franklin County Democrats
Organized & Managed by Cindi Laws -- questions to me
Hi-class, reception-style event with gorgeous food
A stage with a band
No-host bar
Lots of TVs
High-quality Wi Fi reception
Tables for candidates. Call me at 206-790-4232 for details
Donations accepted -- but the event has no charge, except for drinks
One of our supporters has arranged a special room rate of $69.95 for regular rooms, and $79.95 for premium rooms

18. Moveon is doing great also
they emailed me today to remind me what shifts were left at my Obama campaign office in Wenatchee. I live in Leavenworth but have worked at office before. I wanted to work but wasn't sure of my days off.

I love the way they asked the best because when you click on maybe volunteering it gives you specific days and times to click on.

I am working on my days off on Sunday and Tuesday. We probably will be calling for Chris Gregoire as she needs more help than Obama here.
