http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=7317954&mesg_id=7340255After reading the OP in this thread, I checked my WA state registration via
http://canivote.org and got the response "No record found." I put in my wife's info and got her voter info, including home address and full name. We have both voted in this year's primary, registered at the same time when we moved into this area, and have voted in all elections in this state for the last several years without having a problem with registration or voting.
This afternoon, I called the Sec. of State office and told them about this. The person I spoke to looked up my registration and couldn't find it either. She suggested that I call the auditor's office in the county that I vote and live in, which I did. The person there searched for my registration in the county voter database and found it. I told her that I had just verified that my voter registration info isn't in the state database, and she said that she had been getting a lot of calls from voters over the last few weeks who have seen the same thing. Amazingly, she didn't seem too worried about it - very casual. Her attitude was "you're registered in the county, so don't worry about it." According to the Sec of State's web site, the state voter database should have the info for every WA state voter. If they aren't even making the effort to sync up with the state database, it gives the impression that, at best, they're semi-interested hacks and, at worst, planning to hack the WA election big time in Nov..
I've called the WA State Democratic Party's office and left a message telling them about this. I'll be interested to see if they know anything about this.
This may be just a technical snafu, but given the stakes in this election, I'm not betting on it. This is just the type of thing that could be used on Election Day to disqualify a lot of votes without the voters even knowing about it. I'm just not comfortable with the idea of leaving the situation up to a bunch of people that don't even seem concerned in it when you take the time to phone them up about it.
