10) It's a Tim Eyman initiative …enough said.
9) The League of Women Voters, the Association of Washington Businesses, the Washington PTA, The Sierra Club, and dozens of other businesses, civic groups and leaders all agree that I-985 is a bad idea. When's the last time that these folks ALL agreed on something?
8) The Seattle Times, Spokane Spokesman Review, Tacoma News Tribune, Seattle PI, and the Vancouver Columbian all said NO to I-985. Does anyone think this is a good idea except for Tim Eyman?
7) The Institute of Transportation Engineers says that I-985 would undermine traffic safety and increase the likelihood of severe congestion in the Puget Sound. Last we checked transportation engineers know a thing or two more about congestion management than Tim Eyman, who is NOT a transportation expert.
6) According to estimates, I-985 will siphon $229 from the average family living outside of greater Seattle-through 2013-to pay for Seattle area projects. This is UNFAIR!
5) I-985 bans bus-only lanes. Why does Eyman hate buses? Bus riders unite and say NO to Eyman and I-985
4) According to the Washington Department of Transportation, I-985 would reduce travel times on SR-520 to 10 mph during rush hour. Yes, you read correctly, 10 MPH during RUSH HOUR.
3) I-985 requires local governments to synchronize traffic lights on arterials and streets. The economy is in the tank and Eyman wants to spend your tax money on synchronizing lights.
2) Opens all carpool lanes after 9:00 am and 6:00 pm on weekdays. If you are a transit rider, carpooler or vanpooler good luck trying get anywhere on time!
1) In these tough economic times, it takes away $582 million over five years from schools, health care and safety all across Washington State to fix Seattle's traffic mess. Except that it doesn't really fix it!
Remember mail-in ballots arrive in your mailbox this week. If you vote in King County, Inititative 985 is the FIRST thing you'll see on your ballot.
Thank you for your support!
