Another BIG BIG one is a'comin!!!!

Being a transplant from Ontario Canada, I embarrassingly got caught with my britches down as it were. On Thursday after working an extra couple hours, I ended up sliding out on the on ramp to southbound 405 from I-90 in Bellevue on my way home to Renton.
While I was stuck, I called Schucks and ordered a set of chains. After WSP State Trooper Curt Boyle(I work local news and he's the WSP King County PIO that I talk to all the time about things, how fun was that!) pulled me out I went straight there, put the chains on, came home and loaded about 400lbs of patio stones in the back of my truck
I am solid now! And just in time according to the next big one coming in Saturday.
Mrs. Tripper and I went out and did grocery shopping, loaded up on tinned goods etc. We have our propane stove, BBQ ready. Enough wood for the stove. Batteries, flashlights, candles....

THE HIGH WIND WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO 1 PM PST SUNDAY. STRONG WINDS WILL DEVELOP OVER THE EAST PUGET SOUND LOWLANDS THIS MORNING AND INTENSIFY THIS AFTERNOON. THIS WIND EVENT WILL PEAK ON TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING BETWEEN 7 PM TONIGHT AND 7 AM SUNDAY MORNING. AT THE HEIGHT OF THIS EVENT...SUSTAINED WINDS COULD REACH 50 TO 70 MPH WITH PEAK GUSTS OF 70 TO 90 MPH. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO IMPACT COMMUNITIES IN EASTERN KING COUNTY SUCH AS NORTH BEND...MAPLE VALLEY AND ENUMCLAW. COMMUNITIES IN EASTERN SNOHOMISH COUNTY SUCH AS SULTAN AND GOLD BAR COULD ALSO EXPERIENCE WINDS APPROACHING THIS MAGNITUDE.

FURTHER WEST ALONG THE I-405 AND HIGHWAY 167 CORRIDORS... INCLUDING WOODINVILLE...BELLEVUE...RENTON AND AUBURN...WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 50 TO 55 MPH ARE EXPECTED.

THIS EVENT COULD RIVAL A SIMILAR FOOTHILLS WIND STORM FROM EARLY DECEMBER 2003. DURING THAT EVENT... NUMEROUS TREES WERE BLOWN OVER... BLOCKING RESIDENTIAL STREETS AND MAJOR HIGHWAYS ALIKE... INCLUDING HIGHWAY 18 NEAR TIGER MOUNTAIN. POWER WAS KNOCKED OUT TO MANY RESIDENCES AND BUSINESSES FOR AS MUCH AS A WEEK. PREPARATIONS FOR THIS WINDSTORM SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY THIS MORNING. BE SURE TO HAVE ENOUGH SUPPLIES ON HAND TO LAST FOR SEVERAL DAYS SHOULD YOU BE STRANDED AT HOME.

IN ADDITION...WIND CHILL READINGS DURING THIS EVENT MAY BE NEAR ZERO WITH AIR TEMPERATURES IN THE MID TO UPPER 20S.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS THAT A SEVERE HIGH WIND EVENT IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING. SUSTAINED WINDS OF AT LEAST 50 MPH...OR GUSTS OF 75 MPH OR HIGHER WILL OCCUR ACROSS THE LOWLANDS. RESIDENTS AND LOCAL OFFICIALS IN THE WARNED AREA SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR WIDESPREAD DAMAGE AND POWER OUTAGES THAT COULD LAST FOR MORE THAN A WEEK.

3. snowing near Port Townsend, lots of little flakes, for last 5 min.

Looking at radar @ NWS I could see the percip approaching, so split some wood, as we were putting splitter awa, here came the flakes. It is pretty out, wouldn't expect this to do much for a bit, but lots of pretty little flakes. I hope the wind is not as bad as predicted, anywhere.

4. It's been snowing in Newcastle for about 1/2 hour now.

Started soft, but it's starting to come down pretty hard out there now.

5. Really coming down now!

Just got back from putting the chains on my truck. Gotta get into work for midnight. I'll be fine. Nice easy drive at 35mph in low gear all the way in.
We have everything we need here, wood for the fire, tinned good, propane for the camp stove, bbq. We just cooked a nice roast for dinner, will make for good sandwiches.
And as is noral, Murphy's Law will kick in and we will have power throughout the whole thing.
Nonetheless, we're ready.

6. Been snowing near an hour now in South Everett

I'm in the Silver Lake neighborhood. Looked outside because I thought of taking a walk. Thought the better of it since it's pretty cold.

Brought in some firewood. Picked up extra propane and mantels for the lantern should we lose power.

Think I'll just sit back and chill. No pun intended.

7. I'm not that far from you

If those winds do kick up I think we can pretty much expect to lose power. I haven't heard much blowing out there but the snow is coming down at a pretty heavy clip right now.

9. I went to the store about 5 hours ago.

I have to walk 3-1/2 blocks out to the main road, where we keep the cars during bad snow times.

I just looked outside, and there is absolutely no trace of the tracks in the snow we've left in the driveway. None.

And the wind is really blowing!

10. I'm getting snow but not getting bad wind

It's not blowing around much here in the Woodinville area. We're getting a good dumping of snow but the winds been fairly calm so far.

11. It is icky out here. Pretty good wind, though not beyond "typical" for this windy part. But add in s

add in snow and yuck. So far we've had at least 2 inches, town reports 4, hard to tell because of the wind. Tracks in the yard fill in quickly, it reminds me of blizzards in the midwest while growing up there. Yuck. Balaclava, scarf, hat, gloves, thick coat, out to wrap the chicken coop with a quilt to slow down the wind through it.

Lights flickered once, but is fine now. There is snow blown up against the north side of our house, and windows, which is unusual since we sit up against the woods on that side.

Yucky and icky and this is not nice. NOT a good night to be out on any road and the shelter is full here, hoping people stay in and safe and wait for daytime and pretty snow again to be out and about.

If anyone has to be out, make sure you take extra clothes because the wind is brutal. If it weren't for the wind, it would be nice, but that wind is brutal.

I moved to the west coast from the midwest and do NOT miss blizzards at all. Yuck and ick to wind and snow mixture.

12. I'm originally from New Jersey

I remember those kinds of blizzards. I'm not seeing drifting here yet and it looks like we've only got 3 more inches so far on top of what was left of the last storm. As long as we don't lose power I'm good with this as long as it clears up fast. I'm going on vacation on Tuesday, and I'll be pissed like no tomorrow if I can't get a flight out of here.

15. It's o'dark thirty (well, actually, just a bit past 3:00 am), and I just

opened the door. The snow had an icy sheen to it, so I put my hand down, and yep. Definitely icy. Like breaking the shell on a chocolate covered ice cream bar.

Folks, it's bad out there! But, I bet you all knew that.

22. I was walking home around this time

And there was a very light rain which instantly froze when it hit the snow. It made an interesting shell on top of the snow. Although now, of course, that ice layer is buried under another six inches of snow.

Still windy here near PT, doing a quick check in then off to dress in layers and try to get picts before sweeping snow off our ramp before anyone walks on it and crushes said snow into chunks to turn into ice it is a long run on sentence.

I hope everyone is inside safe, dry, warm.

I can't afford to lose more time at work, but oh well. Got my cross country ski fixed last night, will go play perhaps, if the wind drops.

i just checked the weather report for my area, it is supposed to snow EVERY DAY till Christmas. We already got about 8 inches. Never, in my lifetime do i remember a storm like this...... Its SNOWMAGEDDON!

20. OK.....I have to ask

Do you all think I'll be flying out of Seatac on Tuesday morning or will I have the most miserable Christmas ever? Will I spend my holiday crying my eyes out, making my unhappy and stranded family even more despondent because they will have to look at my swollen and tear laden face and listen to my moans while we sit around the Kitchen Table eating cans of tuna fish with Ritz Crackers from the pantry.

23. It is absolutely GORGEOUS outside this morning!

A layer of dense heavy wet snow is on everything, every wire is coated, every tree. The snow on the metal roof is thawing and starting to slide off. BEAUTIFUL!

That said, I really can't afford to miss this week of work. I am off the computer soon, out to dwell in the beauty of this and not fret since I can't do much about it anyways.

24. kick for only 1-3 inches of snow tonight (Tues 12/23)

Winter Weather Advisory for much of NW WA, with Winter Storm Warning for the rest. Again. The NWS map was white for a while this morning (no advisories or watches). Sounds like this one won't be as bad, and then it will warm up and melt and cause floods.

At least it is above zero.
