No more Basic Health or GAU
So now that recession is in full swing here the state and counties are cutting back all social welfare programs to bare bones. I have heard that Basic Health will be eliminated in June, is this true? I am on GAU and they are frantically trying to get me onto GAX because GAU is being eliminated in June. I suffered serious medical travesty in '07 and need ongoing medical treatment. I deserve GAX as much of my anguish now is psychological but there is no telling who gets what. This state will become impossible to live in with all the social cuts.

1. BHP has said they are not going to expand the program, and as people
drop out, they won't be replaced.

What is happening to Basic Health?

* Because of the state’s impending budget deficit, Governor Chris Gregoire directed the Health Care Authority to reduce expenditures by $15 million.
* Some of these cuts directly affect Basic Health (BH).

What does this mean to the program?

* Beginning with coverage for February, Basic Health will reduce the number of available slots.
* A “member” includes all individuals (new applicants, their spouses, and dependents) on the member account.
* This process applies statewide.
* This is NOT a wait list.

What does this mean to current members?

* Be very punctual about paying your premiums on time. Also, make sure you respond to any requests for information by the due dates on the request.
* Members have the right to leave the program, but it may take longer to return to Basic Health in the future.

What does this mean to current applicants?

* If you are currently involved in the enrollment process, turn in all information as soon as possible and respond to any requests for information by the due dates on the request.
* Basic Health will continue to process all applications on a first-come, first-served basis (our current process).
* Basic Health will notify you if it needs more information or when space is available.
* Basic Health will offer coverage as space is available.
