Dear Friends,
We're happy to report that our new video, "Where Is Tomorrow's Farmer?", is getting a lot of great attention!
This ten-minute video highlights the issue of the increasing age of farmers in the U.S. It also looks into some hopeful solutions for bringing younger people into the sustainable farming profession. It was shot entirely on San Juan Island in northwest Washington State in recent months.
The video was made by Michael Hurwicz of Irthlingz Arts-Based Environmental Education with the help of a generous grant from The Raynier Foundation.
Ian Byington of the "San Juan Update" (
http://sanjuanupdate.com) -- a widely read "local events" site for San Juan Island -- has posted a link with the comment "I sure enjoyed watching it, and I think you will, too."
It's also the top item on the Slow Food "Land and Sea" blog:
http://slowfoodlandandsea.blogspot.com/).
Their commentary says in part:
"We'd like as many people in the community as possible to see it. So, send a link to your friends, and when you see Jim Lawrence, Jim Sesby, Bequin, and the other farmers and community members who are in this video, strike up a conversation, and see if there's a way you can take part in giving our kids an opportunity to carry on this important and rewarding work in our community."
The Journal of the San Juans has also posted a piece on the video:
