GOP Source: Rossi to challenge Murray
http://seattletimes .nwsource. com/html/ localnews/ 2011943932_ apuswashingtonst atesenate1stldwr itethru.html? syndication= rss

A Republican official said Monday that Dino Rossi plans to enter the Washington state race against Democratic Sen. Patty Murray this week.

The official said that Rossi - a two-time candidate for governor - is hiring staff and is preparing to make his widely anticipated campaign official on Wednesday. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private campaign plans.

Republicans had been courting Rossi and national Democrats have been criticizing him in hopes of keeping him out of the Senate race or rough him up by the time he's officially in.

But Rossi has been in no rush to start campaigning ahead of the Aug. 17 primary. Complicating the GOP effort has been Sarah Palin's endorsement of another GOP candidate, former football player Clint Didier.

The late start means Rossi will have to aggressively tap his supporters to raise the money needed to mount a viable campaign against Murray, who won her last campaign by a comfortable margin.

Rossi is best known politically as a runner-up, losing governor's races to Democrat Chris Gregoire by a handful of votes in 2004 and a wider margin in 2008. But some recent polls have suggested a close race with Murray, and national Republicans have been recruiting Rossi for weeks.

Mary Lane Strow, a consultant of Rossi's who was his spokeswoman in the 2004 race, refused to confirm or deny Rossi's entrance into the race, other than saying that he would make some type of a statement midweek.
Murray was first elected to the Senate in 1992's Year of the Woman. She ran that race as an unassuming "mom in tennis shoes" but has since climbed to the No. 4 spot on the Democratic leadership team. She faced a relatively weak Republican field before Rossi entered the race and had almost $6 million in her campaign account as of March 31.

2. Oh, goodie!
How many times will he have to lose before he realizes that he is not ever going to get elected to ANY office by the citizens of Washington? This one will be his 3rd strike. His last run against Gregoire was pretty decisive, I believe.

3. Oh, but surely hiring an Enron lobbyist as his campaign manager will help
http://horsesass.org/?p=27253

Politico reports that Dino Rossi is preparing to jump into the U.S. Senate race, and has made his first hire:

Former Washington gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi has enlisted GOP strategist Pat Shortridge to serve as general consultant for his likely campaign against Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, a Republican consultant tells POLITICO, in the clearest sign yet that Rossi is poised to announce his candidacy.

Shortridge, who is based in Minnesota and serving as a senior strategist for Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio, did not confirm or deny that he’s signed on with Rossi, telling POLITICO Monday morning: “I don’t have any comment on that. There’s a time and a place for everything.”

According to a DSCC press release, Shortridge was also a top lobbyist in Enron’s Washington office, where he lauded Enron as “a terrific company, very innovative, very free-market-oriented,” just months before it collapsed in scandal and indictments.

“It’s no surprise that Dino Rossi’s first hire in his Senate campaign is a former lobbyist for Enron,” said DSCC Communications Director Eric Schultz. “Rossi’s consultant is likely well-trained in defending shady deals, questionable business arrangements, and other ethical lapses. At least Dino Rossi acknowledges the baggage he brings to the race and is building a campaign accordingly.”

4. I have a follower in Twitter who is a biggie in Washington state
Republican circles (why she follows me, I don't know).

Yesterday she tweeted something along the lines of "Everywhere I go, people are so excited about Rossi getting into the Senate race."

Hmmm, everywhere I go, people curse his existence.

Obviously, we run with different crowds.

5. Rossi was written up as a young upcoming politician to watch
Edited on Thu May-27-10 01:00 AM by Wash. state Desk Jet
at the same time Obama was. Rossi was the republican version of the same in that time frame. When Rossi took his vacation to Philadelphia after his first loss at the poles and in the court, republicans of the east wanted to know if he was going to go for the US senate seat.Of course Rossi' reply to those questions was, I am not interested in a senate run. That is typically a political avoidance answer to option 2. Now go back to Hong Tran in her struggle to decide what to run for, senate or congress. She went for senate ,ten thousand some odd votes as I recall.

Two things you don't do , you don't ever express uncertainty about place in office ,and you never tell what your long term political aspirations are. So you think positive in time and place keeping time in place. The cart .the horse.Unless the horse is properly hitched the cart goes nowhere and the bill of goods never gets delivered.so you do not place the cart before the horse. It really has to get there to be there.

Do not underestimate Rossi.
He knows he can't sneak up on it again, that was a one time shot. And you know he knows he has to court king county voters if he seriously believes his own shit.

And the other thing is, Rossi does understand that there is considerable power in the internet. And he will no doubt be investing in finding ways to maximize his efforts over the net if he hasn't already.

Look for what hasn't been done already in campaign strategy in the equivalent of sneaking up on it. If you are not sure what that means, than think to remember, Rossi passed himself off as a regular home grown guy of humble beginnings. Just a regular down home guy of humble beginnings. Over there in eastern Washington, down toward Blaine -,over there by Vancouver Washington. They thought he was a regular hard working guy just like them. He campaigned everywhere in Washington except King county where his history was well known. Those people didn't know where he lived or how he got there. And the scam worked for them.Do you think so very many of them will have voted for a slum lord?

So in their senate bid you will want to look where they do not want you to see. Remember, Rossi's their guy and he wants the voters to think he is all about them and their children and grand children. See how it goes around? It's bull shit but the same old shit keeps working for some reason.

It may take some figuring to crack the equation.

Do not underestimate them. You see, Rossi's their guy.And he did a lot wheeling and dealing over the years to be their guy or who ever that is !

6. I don't doubt Rossi will campaign hard but have you seen
his web page or his announcement email? His "pros" must not have arrived. Both are dull and amateurish. I don't think he has a real shot at this but I suspect he said "yes" to the RCCC only extracting a promise of significant campaign support. It is for that reason that I made another contribution to the Murray campaign yesterday.

7. Indeed I have seen.

And indeed it is weak. His web announcement was almost funny to watch. It looks as though he is attempting to scrap together a bit of a grass roots campaign. You know, the join me thing. But look here ,there is deception in that scrappy method ,and even the way it was put across was planned very carefully. Rossi's fascination with the power of the internet goes back at least six years and really more than that. You must recall Al Gore's comments and statements about the power of internet.

When you look at Rossi's web page ,it does seem rather scraped together doesn't it? On his web announcement he appeared as though he was more concerned about how he appeared and less so about how he came across by his words.

OK so look here, if his web address turned out to be very very impressive and unique ,than they will have exposed aspects of his method. Remember nobody outside of King county ,exception to those in know, knew who the heck Rossi is. Rossi conveyed in presence a guy who came from humble beginnings who worked hard all his life and made his way in this great country. - Hard Work pays off. That was his slogan.

Part of selling a house is knowing how to convince the client you got exactly what they want. Like a car salesman with a honest seeming face.

If you knew how the Buffalo Bill's for example did the sneak up on the super bowel the first time, and you were to look at that. And than look again and they did it twice. They did not win but they got there straight up from the very bottom. They won games by a point or two, Seemingly out in the field to be unbelievably lucky.

Oh, but it was not luck.

It was all about carefully guarded secrets.

And a lot of deception.

What you saw is just what they wanted you to see in just the way you saw what you saw.

There is some bushy campaign stuff in there. For example where Rossi talks about being able to bring both republicans and democrats together at the table to fix things. Well give me a home run isn't that Bush in 2000 !

They got in, closed the door and build a wall around the white house.

Oh yea, Rossi's a hard working guy, just like you and just like me but more like Bush.

It is far to early to form a opinion about Rossi's internet activities. What you want to look for is clues to how they are going to try to sneak up on us. (!)

Did MaGavic's campaign advertisements make you laugh a little by the way?

That's the other place to watch, main stream media advertising along creative lines, something new.

Just how are they going to try and sneak up on us (?)

Could be Interesting (!)

No doubt they will fail, but they might scare you a little. It might even look as though they are winning or ahead by large margins from time to time. But what it all comes down to in their strategy is just a point or two.
That's all it takes.

To put a name and face to it simply, do not underestimate Rossi.

9. It's a bit early but the a poll puts
Rossi ahead by a few points .some odd 13 per cent undecided.

So, as bad as it was ,he came out ahead in the polls. Thats not good.42/39 something like that with a wide margin of error. And they didn't have to do much ,if anything.

I know that doesn't say much, and Rossi didn't really say anything, but numbers do speak. That's what Rossi knows.
