With your support, same-sex marriage will be the law in 2012.

Washington United for Marriage, a coalition of local organizations, congregations, unions, and businesses, kicked off their campaign yesterday to legalize same-sex marriage in 2012. (1)

I’ve written a letter to Washington United for Marriage expressing the Washington State Democratic Party’s support for legalizing same-sex marriage.

Will you join with us and co-sign my letter in support of marriage equality?

Washington State is ready for same-sex marriage. In 2009, Washington State voters passed Referendum 71, granting same-sex couples all of the rights enjoyed by heterosexual married couples, except for one thing - the title of marriage.

It’s time to go a step further. It’s time for Washington to stand up for equality and grant gay and lesbian couples who share the values of love, commitment, and family the right to civil marriages.

Even the typically conservative Seattle Times editorial board has stood up in favor of marriage equality. They gave this call to action: “ALL right, Washington State: Let’s do something bold… Our state should legalize same-sex marriage.” (2)

Do something bold with us. Join the effort to legalize same-sex marriage.

Momentum is growing across the nation to legalize same-sex marriage in State Legislatures and in Washington DC. Last Thursday, a bill to rescind the Defense of Marriage Act passed along party lines out of Senate Committee. (3)

Washington State can lead in this movement. Please sign on and support marriage equality today.
