Benefits: Full health coverage. Generous vacation package. Start date: August 2004
Commitment: 9 months (1st month may be part-time; full-time September 04-April 05)

The organization

Washington State Jobs With Justice is an eleven year-old labor, community, faith and student coalition dedicated to fighting for the rights of working people. We work in partnership with central labor councils, local unions and community organizations in mobilizing direct actions for secure living-wage jobs, health care, and workplace and civil rights for all. Washington State JwJ has over 4000 "I'll Be There" pledge card signers statewide and over 120 sponsoring organizations. We have active JwJ organizing committees in three counties and occasional activities throughout other parts of the state.

Washington State JwJ has a statewide Executive Board and Steering Committee, which oversees the direction of the coalition, approves an annual budget, elects eleven officers, and hires the organizer. JwJ also sponsors a Worker's Rights Board made up of prominent community leaders which conducts hearings and investigations on matters of concern to working people, consistent with the mission statement of the coalition. JwJ's annual budget of approximately $110,000 is raised largely through donations by individuals, local unions and community organizations.

The position

* Internal Organizing and Mobilization. The Staff Organizer motivates activists on our constituency list to become more active and involved in actions and mobilization for JwJ activities.
* Coalition Building. * Finance. The Staff Organizer, along with the JwJ Executive Board and Steering Committee members, designs and implements an annual fundraising plan, including grassroots activities and events, organizations, contributions, merchandise sales and grants. Preparations for our main fundraising event (Honoree Dinner) at the end of October will be a major focus for the Staff Organizer during the first few months.
* Administration. The Staff Organizer oversees administrative functions of the JwJ office, including database management, website updates, newsletter development, correspondence, and record-keeping.
