Washington Citizen Action (WCA) is a statewide social, economic, and racial justice organization. WCA members are organizations and individuals who believe in the fight for economic justice.
WCA is seeking a Health Care Organizer to be the lead staff in a campaign to protect, strengthen & preserve the non-profit character of health care institutions in Washington. The campaign is built on the following principles:
- All Washington residents deserve access to affordable and comprehensive health care;
- A non-profit health care system whose bottom line is serving the community's needs rather than making a profit is good for Washington;
- Because of their special status, non-profit health care institutions receive substantial benefits which should be returned to the community in the form of broader access, more affordable care, and a higher quality of care;
- Because of their mission and in return for the privileges of non-profit status, non-profit health care institutions should uphold a high standard in their treatment of all patients and employees, including fair wages and benefits and equitable treatment regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, language, income, or insurance status.
Job Title: Health Care Organizer
Job Description
- Lead staff on campaign to protect, strengthen & preserve non-profit health care.
- Run and win issue campaigns. This includes developing strategies, engaging in direct action, planning events, media, etc.
- Research and track issues related to non-profit health care.
- Coalition building and organizing
- Recruit and develop WCA grassroots leadership by developing and staffing Community Action Teams, performing home visits, identifying and integrating new activists into WCA programs, providing one on one mentoring and support, and creating formal training opportunities.
- Work in a team setting to organize members.
- Mobilize our members and other activists to attend specific events – lobby days, rallies, demonstrations, etc (turn out)
- Raise funds, through membership renewals, special events, etc.
Qualifications
-Demonstrated commitment to fighting for social, racial, and economic justice.
-Experience with health care policy.
-Ability to work with people of varied backgrounds.
-Strong verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
-Experience doing community, labor, canvass or electoral organizing.
-Experience with and commitment to working on racial justice issues and/or working in communities of color.
-Strong personal time management skills and the ability to work under pressure
-Language skills a plus.
