Initiative 933 is the most dangerous assault on Washington’s environment and quality of life in over a decade. It creates a “pay or waive” system that forces local communities to either waive laws for special interests or force taxpayers to pay those special interests to follow the rules. These loopholes will lead to more irresponsible development and more traffic congestion. It applies to protections including forestry laws, shoreline protections, and even zoning.
There is a lot of work to be done to defeat this initiative. We need your help to get the word out about I-933!
Speaker Training/Speakers Bureau:
We know that when people understand what Initiative 933 will do, they are on our side! We will have communications experts on hand to train you how to get the best message out to voters about why they should oppose Initiative 933. We want to help you get the message across in a way that accurately and concisely explains the issue to voters.
After the training we will hit the streets to practice getting the word out and increase visibility and knowledge about the campaign. This is going to be a tough fight – but we can win with you on our side!
When: Saturday, August 12th 10 am – 4 pm
10 am – 12 pm: Speakers Training
12 pm – 4 pm: Yard Sign posting
Where: 1605 Boylston Ave Suite 202, Seattle WA 98112
Neighborhood Associations
I have a list of community councils in Seattle neighborhoods. We need people who can call and request 5 minutes for a speaker from the campaign at their next meeting. We also need speakers to attend. I have a phone script and can provide training for the 5 minute presentation we give if you feel comfortable speaking. It is always more effective to have someone from the community speak about this issue.
Phone Banking
Join us Tuesday, Wednesday, and (in the near future) Thursday evenings from 6-8:30 pm to contact supporters to recruit volunteers, offer yard signs, and remind people to vote NO on I-933. Pizza and good company provided.
Voter Contact at PCC
We are good to go for getting pledge signatures and handing out flyers at PCC on the weekday evenings and weekend. If you could recruit a friend (it’s more fun that way) and go for a few hours each week, we would be contacting a ton of voters. PCC is also a great resource for folks who might want to sign up to volunteer.
Weekly Community Events
The best way to educate voters, create high visibility for the campaign, and show we have thousands of supporters is to get out into the community! Join us for a day of flyering and asking for pledge signatures at weekend events. We will be out until the end of the summer.
Letters to the Editor
Sign up to be contacted to write a letter to the editor as soon as stories break in local papers and check your local newspaper regularly to find related articles and letters. This is a simple way to make a huge impact on voters.
Get out the Vote
Starting on September 9th, we will hit the ground running to contact as many voters as possible to ensure that we defeat Initiative 933. Join us for our Voter Kick Off in the morning and then prepare to head out into the streets to start contacting voters by doorbelling, putting up yard signs, and making phone calls.
