McGavick reveals drunken driving incident

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Republican U.S. Senate challenger Mike McGavick, in a remarkable confession of what he called his personal and political shortcomings, on Thursday revealed a drunken driving incident and discussed his divorce, a political dirty trick and payroll slashing at his old insurance company.

The divorce, his regret over an earlier campaign tactic, and layoffs at Safeco Insurance Co. had all been noted in previous campaign coverage. Word of the DUI in 1993 was new, as was his overall decision to publicly discuss his shortcomings.

McGavick said he had no indication that opponents were about to divulge the drunken driving incident or any other things he mentioned.

His comments came in an interview with The Associated Press and he later covered the same topics in "an open letter from Mike" on his campaign blog.

As it seems ,when MaGavic was still in training to become the corperate axman of Safco, and as rumor will have it dating his secound wife ,he also had a hankering for too much booze . When he was a lobbiest still in training to become the axman.

So he started out by axing his first wife. And so, at which point , he was on his way to becomming axman from hell at Safco.

Now he is prepared to face the nation ,in the light of republican lime.
He plans to donate moneys to the Bull Moose Lieberman party. And ofcourse in hopes of dividing the democratic vote in Conn. and obtaining republican votes in the process, as Lieberman is indeed a republican masquerading as a democrate.

A 1993 Maryland police report, obtained Friday, shows that Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike McGavick was less candid than he seemed last week when he disclosed a previously unknown arrest for drunk driving.

For example, in a sketchy, four-sentence description of the incident on his campaign Web site Aug. 24, McGavick wrote that he was stopped when he "cut a yellow light too close in 1993" while driving home with Gaelynn, now his wife.

The Montgomery County, Md., police officer who arrested him Nov. 21, 1993, said in his report that he saw McGavick "drive through a steady red light."

The candidate, who is running against Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell, said in an interview last week that he was issued a citation but wasn't arrested.

U.S. Senate candidate Mike McGavick was stumbling drunk when he was pulled over by a Montgomery County, Md., sheriff's deputy 13 years ago, and he understated how much he had had to drink, according to the deputy's arrest report.

McGavick failed all of the standard field sobriety tests before his arrest and fell asleep in the jail while waiting to be booked, said the report, which was obtained Thursday night by The Seattle Times. His blood-alcohol level was .17 percent, more than double the legal limit of .08 percent in both Maryland and Washington. The report notes that the blood-alcohol test was administered an hour and a half after McGavick's arrest.

The deputy pulled McGavick's white Mazda Miata over about 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 21, 1993, after he watched it "drive through a steady red signal." McGavick said last week, when his campaign acknowledged the existence of his drunk-driving arrest, that he had he cut a yellow light too close. The deputy approached the car and reported that when McGavick rolled the window down he "could detect a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage from the interior."

"(I) then asked McGavick how much he had to drink tonight McGavick responded, 'Oh, I don't know – two, maybe three beers," the report said. Last Friday, McGavick acknowledged that he had been drinking beer for hours at three parties before he was pulled over. Blood-alcohol level calculators available on the Internet note that a 180-pound man would have to drink more than eight beers in an hour to achieve a blood-alcohol level of .17 percent...(more@ link)
