Democrat to challenge Rahall for seat
http://www.herald-dispatch.com/2005/June/02/LNlist6.htm

Tom Easterly of Beckley has announced his intention to run against Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., for the Mountain State’s 3rd Congressional District seat in the Democratic primary election on May 9, 2006.

Easterly, a life insurance agent for 25 years, incorporated his own company in 1995. Before going into insurance, he practiced law. He also has served in the Kentucky State Senate and Florida’s House of Representatives.

1. I like Rahall better than 95% of Demcrats
He has concern for justice in international affairs and breaking the US elites from their traditional affinities in global policies.

2. yeah but
he's still pretty much moderate to conservative though but he does bring home the bacon, especially in transportation projects

I've met him a few times--and he's a lot shorter than I thought

he's about my height and I'm short

7. He's run
for House of Delegates a couple of times and couldn't win. More conservative than Rahall on women's rights. Rahall is pretty good on environmental issues.

5. Rahall did speak out against Iraq right before the war
He even went to Iraq before the war. However going up for midterms and the '04 elections he knew being anti war would cost him his seat. This is a slight problem in West Virginia with our two Democratic congressmen. Neither of them are liberal, but they are pretty safe from GOP challengers. If they lose the primary this the GOP challenger would suddenly gain a lot of national money into their contest. I don't know much about this guy but he sounds like another DINO.

6. Who here knows anything about history? Anything?
"he's still pretty much moderate to conservative though but he does bring home the bacon, especially in transportation projects"

That is a good thing.

"Neither of them are liberal, but they are pretty safe from GOP challengers. If they lose the primary this the GOP challenger would suddenly gain a lot of national money into their contest. I don't know much about this guy but he sounds like another DINO."

Aside from my personal feelings about his personal life, he acts very much like a Democrat.

Before you people were born there was a thing called the Democratic Party. You might want to look into it. I think too many people now days are getting it confused with other parties.

9. can you do anything except stir things up?
The two threads I've seen you on so far all you've done is personally challenge someone else, without stating any basis for your argument. Yes, both political parties have gone through evolution. Just like the GOP used to stand for smaller government and personal freedom. The Democrat party used to stand for segregation. Rahall has been a good congressman for West Virginia, but he is neither progressive nor dynamic. Choosing another non-progressive and non-dynamic Democrat does nothing except put a Democratic seat in danger come November.

11. I am too tired to attack or reply with snide remarks... soooo...
"Choosing another non-progressive and non-dynamic Democrat does nothing except put a Democratic seat in danger come November."

First, I am assuming that you are using "non-progressive" and "non-dynamic" as synonyms. And what is your reasoning that it places that seat in danger? I think it nearly secures it.

And to ease tensions to prevent another Flottz incident, I will admit that the above statements are only my opinions. I am not enforcing them as facts. But I can present viable information to defend it.

Anyway, your turn.

Nearly 4am...

8. Remember the Incumbent Advantage
Easterly would need to have a lot of virtues, before I would favor losing the advantage of running Rahall as an incumbent against the Republican challenger.

10. I think it telling...
Of the difficulty he will have since I have never heard of him and live less than a mile from Beckley, listen to their radio stations, and watch the Raleigh County news outlets.

13. Rahall kicks ass- I'll never vote for anyone else

I like where he stands on almost all the issues. He knows the Iraq war is BS. He knows we need to take a different approach to the mid east. He's pro guns and hunter, but he's also very strong on the environment. He is a little more conservative on some social issues than I am, but he makes up for it by not being a corporate shill.
