How are things in West Virginia?

One of the networks interviewed a man who was about to be sent to serve in Iraq. He said that in West Virginia, during Bush's presidency, things have been better than at any time in his life.

So how are things in West Virginia?

1. What they failed to report was that...

the man just so happened to find several bags of money.

2. Republican Talking Point

This is a standard Republican talking point. For example:

About 2.1 million jobs were added to the national economy annually over the previous two decades, including intervals of recession. During Bush's tenure, just a tenth of that number of jobs has been created each year. This is one example of Bush's failed economy. Confronted with this FACT, some Republicans mindlessly babble out the talking point, "I've been doing better during the Bush administration than at any other time in my life."

Ironically, these same Republicans complain endlessly about the sorry condition of West Virginia's economy. They blame this on the Democratic-controlled state legislature (and every other Democrat in office), saying it's time for a change. Actually, the state economy has tracked the national economy pretty closely during Dubya's tenure, but they don't seem to understand that.

I know these things because I regularly spar with state Republicans on a conservative radio talk show that broadcasts from Charleston.

3. Thanks for the info. Didn't know that West Virginia had a Dem legislature

States with republican legislatures like Colorado had notoriously bad economies. They had to cut programs just as bush's economy began to fail.

4. Democratic Superiority, by the Numbers

That's no surprise to me, even though states' economies are influenced primarily by what's going on nationally.

First of all, many (if not most) Republicans want to gut our social programs, so the Colorado legislature might have been acting out of ideology more than necessity.

But here's a point that's even more important: We all want prosperity, oppose unemployment, dislike inflation, don't enjoy paying taxes, etc. The party with the best record of serving these economic values is the Democrats.

7. I just read in my local

newspaper that this area<eastern panhandle> is having higher than national average employment. It is a crock of shit. If i had to work at a local job i would be making a 1/3 of what i make now. Instead i travel 70 miles one way to work for decent wages. It's all a smoke screen.
