So I might be able to make it.. Is there anything organized? And what is Bush coming to Parkersburg for?

3. Is going to be at Parkersburg South High School
to talk about NCLB. Don't know where they will permit protesting (probably at Parkersburg High School- on the other side of town) Interestingly, this is not a campaign visit, it's a presidential visit, the difference being that us taxpayers are paying the tab.

6. The Blennerhasset. It is really neat.
If you come here, I would love to meet for lunch. (You may remember me from another dems board as "Princess Smartypants")

10. yeppers
south is right up on the hill from me, so, i will probably just be walking (5 minute hike, ain't bad).

and i've decided i should probably tone my sign down a bit :P but they won't be funneling me into a "free speech zone," probably across the street at the national guard (ironic..... or, appropos), so i may end up getting arrested or somesuch..... i am absolutely disgusted by having that thing in my neighborhood. i get mildly nauseous and pissed when i think too much about it. he doesn't belong here.

by the way, it's supposed to be on thursday at 1:10 in the afternoon (leave no child behind, unless they can be used as a campaign backdrop eh?). it will probably be in the gym, and trust they won't be letting you in. but there is private property just behind the gym on a small hill up there, and that may be as good of a place as any for being heard. might even ask the property owners there if you can stand up there, and then they can't do a damn thing about it.

if somebody tells me my presence is embarrassing them or the area, i'll fucking snap. but you can bet there will be a sizeable counter presence in the area.

11. I hope so
do you know of anything organized? I'm planning to attend the dem meetup at the library tomorrow night, but the Wood Co. Dem Exec. Comm (what a name!) has a note that meetup isn't the place to get w/other county dems. Anyway, on the off chance that they are there, I'll try to go.

12. The protest at Marshall was a joy to behold, I had friends on TV!
Bush pulled back the funding on the Corps of Engineers lock upgrade project at Marmet a couple of months ago and that caused a huge layoff of construction workers! There is almost no other union construction work in the valley now, except for the John Amos power plant job! The contractor at the Marmet job was so pissed at Bush, that he used the company's own busses to haul all the pissed off guys who were just laid off to Huntington to protest!

If you contact the building trades people in Parkersburg they may be able to set you up with a ride to the protest! If there is a bus coming from Charleston I'll be on that sucker, if there is room! I'm going to call my union hall today and find out what's up!

i haven't heard of anything organized....

isn't that weird, that the meetup wouldn't be the place to get with other dems? hm....

and it looks as though it'll be raining thursday. which will probably put a damper on attendance, sadly. was funny, yesterday my neighbor asked if i was goin' to see my buddy thursday. for a bit i thought, "what?" but then i 'got it,' and told him i'd be standin' outside with sign. so i said, are you goin'? and this man, whom i've rarely heard cuss in my lifetime goes, "shiiiiit." lol

i know i'll be around though, rain, lightnin', raining lightning, locusts, frogs, whatever. i don't like trash in my neirghborhood, even if it is presidential trash

14. HEY..... NEW INFO
the paper today said that dems will be meeting at southwood park at 10 a.m., to plan the attack ;) they will be meeting at one of the picnic shelters, most likely the one at the end of the big parking lot by the pond and waterslide, then walking the short distance up to south.

for those who don't know and would like to, southwood park is easy to find, if you can locate the high school on soutside, itself not out of the way.... i'll assume you can find south (if not, let me know). right in front of the school on the other side is a road leading into the park, with a sign you pass under with the park's name. the park isn't very big at all, basically a strip of land along that road, which is about a mile long. from the end going up toward south h.s. there's an elementary school (me alma mater), a softball field, basketball courts, tennis courts, the swimming pool, a small playground, the pond, with the water slide just behind it, and then parking lot and shelter i spoke of with some playground equipment beside it at the very end..... all of which are right along the road.

i will likely not be at the park for the meetup, but will probably be walking up separately a little later. i do hope to see some of you there, rain or shine. we'll let 'em know they ain't welcome in our mountains

15. Bought the PN today
and couldn't find any mention. Was that in Tuesday's? I did get a nasty moment when I saw the supplemental "Welome" propaganda insert. Speeeewwwww!!!!!!!!

I had an errand on southside this morning and so I drove thru the park while there to check out the location and all (had never been there before... Nice water slide!) and spotted several white vans with tinted windows and black-suited drivers. I assume they were vacationing men in black.

16. ......
it was in the sentinel on tuesday. i checked again just to be sure, and yes, they'll be meeting around 10 a.m., and then walking up to blizzard drive (the road in front of the school) to stage a rally, according to walt auvil.

i am so glad this was organized.

i also found out the event is ticketed, and they're offering about 1,000 or so.... but the republicans are basically hand-selecting folks. how is it this can be an "official" visit in his capacity as a public official, and yet a political party has control over who gets in? how does that work?

but i can't believe you've never been to southwood park! and you live in parkersburg.... guess that speaks to the level of need you 'northerners' have to venture to southside, when we have to go to northend, even vienna, if we want to out to a restaurant that doesn't sell chicken mcnuggets :P

as for the men in black.... you can bet they're reading this thread, too. hi fellas (ladies?) :hi: just doing their jobs i guess, making sure der fuhrer is protected.... but i'll be there with my sign, and others i'm planning on making for folks. hope there's a huge turnout
