Raese, Lewis File for Byrd Senate Seat
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 09:03 AM by MountainLaurel
It's official, kids. Arch-in-a-Bad-Wig (thank you, Hubert, for that apt description of Capito) wasn't brave enough, but apparently these guys are.

In about 20 minutes Wednesday afternoon, the number of Republicans running for U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd’s Senate seat grew by two.

Morgantown businessman John Raese, who nearly defeated Jay Rockefeller in a 1984 U.S. Senate race, and Morgantown lawyer Hiram Lewis, who came close to upsetting Attorney General Darrell McGraw’s 2004 re-election bid, both filed Wednesday.

Raese, whose business interests include limestone and media holdings, ended weeks of speculation with his filing.

“The biggest issue I’m going to run on is a rebirth of capitalism in this country,” said Raese, who said the United States has become too dependent on government jobs and foreign imports.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize capitalism in this country had died. Wish I'd known, I would have made some spinach dip and had people over to celebrate.

1. If he can't stop it he should get out of the race
...But Raese said he could not control organizations such as the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which has already aired commercials critical of Byrd.

“I don’t have any control of any outside coalitions, and I don’t think anyone does,” he said.

2. I know West Virginians can proudly claim Sen. Byrd as their own
But I hope his opponents know that Byrd has now become a national and even international treasure. He has been a target of the worst kind of attacks from the brownshirts ever since his first speech against their ill-conceived and failed war in Iraq.

He also put his vote where his mouth was and voted against the IWR. His urgent plea to his colleagues that night, not to give away Congress' power to the president was ignored. But his warnings have turned out to be true.

So, Raese cannot control his minions ~ what a totally non-acceptable statement from a man asking to be elected Senator, and almost amusing in a way when you analyze it 'please make me your leader but don't expect me to have any control over anything!'

No need for him to worry, there are literally tens of thousands of us out here who will take care of that little problem for him.

Raese himself better have nothing to hide. Maybe he should rethink that 'I can't control the minions' strategy. His party is in no shape, riddled with scandal as it is, to go down that worn out path anymore.

Mmm, looks like he's a two time looser also ~ I think he's about to make it 'three'!

3. I never thought I'd say this and it's like a bad dream for me but
If Robert Byrd votes for Sam Alito I'll never vote for him again. HELL YES IT'S POLITICAL! That's what politics is about! I'm so pissed off I could eat freakin' nails!

4. Do you think he'll really do it?
And just because a majority of his constituents are supporting Alito? Or, is there a possibility, as some people have mentioned, that he has some greater scheme in mind?
