In the annals of Repiglican hate, there is no group more despised than MoveOn. They are vilified as "George Soros liberals," "the Michael Moore wing of the Democratic Party."

And yet Robert C. Byrd took $830,000 from the most liberal group in America.

Now he's sticking a dagger into the hearts of those liberals across America who gave him their dollars, one and ten and twenty at a time, to keep him in office. These weren't thousand dollar chuckle-checks written by millionaires. These were the hard-earned dollars of real Americans, who gave up their weekend trip to the movies to help Robert Byrd; chose hamburger over steak to help Robert Byrd; paid a little less on their credit card bills to help Robert Byrd.

It is safe to say that no one who gave money to MoveOn for Robert Byrd supports Samuel Alito. It is safe to say that no one who gave money to MoveOn for Robert Byrd agreed with him when he voted in favor of the Republican Bankruptcy Bill. It is safe to say that no one who gave money to MoveOn for Robert Byrd agreed with him when he voted in favor of the Republican class action reform bill. It is safe to say that no one who gave money to MoveOn for Robert Byrd agreed with him when he voted in favor of the Republican nomination of John Roberts.

Byrd's announcement of his support for Alito is nothing short of a great big thumbing of his nose to liberals and progressives in America who have given him the majority of his financial support.

Byrd has shot "the bird" at America's progressives and liberals and true Democrats.

Now that he's in a real race against a multi-millionaire, tell Byrd to GIVE THE MONEY BACK to MoveOn, so they can use it to support candidates who really support a Democratic Vision for America's future.

And actually having family that is related to him by marraige, I actaully meet him. He is so articulate and wonderful, and his book just trashes the Bush criminals and exposes just how bad they are.

I just dont get how he cannot support a filibuster, HELL even Chafee does not. I really think there is something more to this, if not, im confident he will change his mind.

That's why I posted in this forum.

I, too, have met and chatted with Senator Byrd.

What you say about him is largely true, Mikeybabe125.

In this instance, he is playing both ends against the middle. He has taken liberals' hard-earned dollars and now he's turning on them in order to pander to the Religion Industry. He feels he must, because of John Raese entering the race.

You must remember that Byrd only made his announcement after it became clear that Raese would declare for the Republican nomination.

In a word, Byrd is operating from pure, naked, knee-knocking fear. And what a shame to see him do that!
