official parkersburg rally thread
Edited on Thu May-13-04 02:35 PM by kispoko
i was *very* pleased with the turnout we had..... we outnumbered 'em, and i'm being generous (for them), about 3 to 1. and we were much, much better organized. we had music, they had some asshole on a cb or something.

to my (pleasant) surprise, when i stopped by the picnic shelter at about 10, a couple of my own neighbors were there.... wouldn't have guessed it. so we ended up walking home together. i stopped by once more about a half hour before noon, to give away some signs, but i ended up just leaving them there and nobody took 'em. i notced that when i came 15 minutes later, and decided to just take 'em myself.... damn am i glad i did that. i was harrassing the republicans with these:

"no more electile dysfunction: kerry 2004"

"bush's policies destroy our beautiful mountains and poison our people"

"what would jesus bomb"

"resistance is fertile"

"don't blame bush: he was on vacation"

"it's "nuclear," not "nukular," moron"

"regime change starts at home"

"700+ soldiers dead. 3,000+ american casualties. 10,000+ innocent iraqis dead. mission accomplished?"

""bin laden determined to attack inside united states" - aug. 6 2001 pdb"

"buck fush"

"where's osama"

and a personal one for me, "get out of shawnee homeland, chimp"

that was the one i walked up with, and the one which drew the most blank stares....

i had some "interesting" republican commentary directed at me, which was to be expected, because i imagine it's pretty embarrassing when you can't explain those signs away with anything other than anger at even having to bother.

1. more.....
as well, my neighbors and i left a little bit early..... but i got restless, so decided to go back up and hang my signs out the car window. well, that didn't work too well, and because of the way the streets were blocked off, it took me forever to get back around..... by the time i did, everyone was gone basically.

so, i said, what the hell, and broke the signs out.... i carried my "no more electile dysfunction" sign around for about another half an hour or so. it just happened that they were letting out about that time, so, i got the ones coming out of the gym from hearing bush. am glad i did, too, 'cause there were only a few stragglers here and there.

and i got on tv! oh god, i hope i didn't sound stupid, or that they edit it in a way that makes me sound ridiculous..... it's the pbs station in athens, this lady yelled from across the street at me, and then came over. they set up, and we only talked for maybe a minute..... it was so hot, i was so hot and sweaty and burning up, face probably red as hell, but i decided to give 'em a chance even though i didn't really feel like it. i can remember basically saying there were myriad reasons for.... something. lol. and then she asked a rather leading question about why i didn't like bush, so, instead of telling her that was pretty leading, said basically there were a variety of disagreements about bush's policy on our side, but i thought it was more a like of kerry and wanted it to be centered around that (you gonna bullshit me, i'll bullshit back with ya lady). and she asked what i thought about the president's visit, and, i told her it was my neighborhood and all, and mentioned how ironic it was he was talking about nclb when they left all the kids behind today, either locked in the auditorium or stayed at home.

god i hope i didn't come off badly.... and not to sound like a woman, but i hope i wasn't too disheveled after standing in the hot ass sun another lifetime :P i'll probably be on wtap as well at 6, i got in the camera shot there at the end and noticed 'em shooting me..... thank god *they* didn't ask, and it was just pbs in athens..... who watches that? hehe

2. and, more....
oh, about those interesting comments.....

when i was walking around amongst the bush votes with my "what would jesus bomb?" sign, this girl yells at me "he'd probably fucking bomb you with that sign!" lofl..... really? jesus would bomb me huh? wow.... wonder what kind of church she grew up in, 'cause that ain't what i heard.... but i bet jesus would use daisy cutters ;)

so, i just blew her a kiss. mighty christian of me.....

i got into a bit with that annoying republican mc with the cb or whatever the hell he had.... he didn't understand what casualties actually meant. he looked at my sign and goes, "3,000 casualties? ain't that 9/11?" i said no, those weren't mere casualties, they were deaths.... the nuance in the word lies in the fact that casualties are inclusive of injuries and such sustained, not merely deaths..... i told him to expand his lexicon a bit, he was beginning to sound like chimp..... he shot back with "whoah, big word...."

heh.

at the end, the only sign i had up was the electile dysfunction one, pacing back and forth in front of the school. had some thumbs up, had some thumbs down. had to explain to an old man, a bush vote, that even though it endorsed kerry on the bottom, it was a pro-democracy statement more than anything.... and i was stunned by the blank stares after asking them if they remember what happened in 2000.

this one dunce came up after that with bush stickers on and asked me what it meant.... so i explained electile dysfunction, as pro-democracy. so then he goes, yeah, but what's it mean? so i'm like, all right fella, what are you talking about? and he wanted to know if it was pro kerry..... well, why the hell else would i have "kerry 2004" on the bottom diptard? so i tried explaining to this fella, that it was really two separate things, on one posterboard..... and this friggin' guy goes, "yeah, but that's not answering my question."

man.... i just sort of had to tell that guy to move along. typical bush vote....

Thanks for TCOB!

3. I drove in from huntington for it
it went well. a much bigger turnout than expected and bush actually had to drive past the protestors when he left-a rare occurqance in an era of free speech zone

and for the curious i was the short, desheveled 27-year old in the smiths shirt

5. The PN&S bloody lies.
http://www.newsandsentinel.com/news/story/0514202004_new03inside.asp

They are trying to imply that the Bush supporters weren't dwarfed.

I got to ride shotgun in the automopig for 2.5 hours. THAT is a wonderful experience. Surprisingly, there was VERY little negative sentiment towards it. The only boos I got were when we drove in front of the Nat'l Guard building and the 5 adult Bush supporters with their 50 brainwashed children "supporters" booed us.

Big props go out to Bill Ambrose, et al. (formally known as the "Anti-Parkersburg News Conspiracy" to the editor of The Parkersburg News) for putting it all together. Also to Wayne Dunn, DDS for allowing us to use his electricity for the folk band and sound system.

that thing should go on tour :P

yes, thanks to those who helped put this thing together, like i said, it was very well done.... i made sure to thank wayne dunn personally as he was still there at the end.

12. uh-oh..... guess i should've read
ignore the questions about the pigmobile, i didn't get to the newspaper before i wrote it, to see this:

"The "pig mobile," found on the Internet, traveled overnight from Maryland. It was requested to attend by a local Democratic group. The largest pig represeted the rising deficit of the war while the smaller ones represented the mounting costs of world hunger, poverty and education."

brilliant public display, that was.... and damnit, i forgot to get a picture x(

although, even though i snapped a few pics for the hell of it, i was more bringing the cheap camera in case the nazis got out of control..... but it wasn't to be :)

that ass with the bullhorn sreaming 'kerry....liberal" got equal time with a crowd of at least 300-400

btw, did you know that bush had special air conditioning brought in to this underfunded school just for him yesterday?

i heard this from several students and they said it was in the paper. i'm trying to find the article to send to the conservative idiots list.

11. they said at the gathering in the park, too
did you go to the pre-rally rally at southwood? that was well-organized too, and they brought in speakers for the crowd..... turns out they needed 'em, which was good.

but walt auvil mentioned them bringing in air conditioners to the gymnasium just so he didn't have to sweat.... we used to sweat in that school all day, and he can't be bothered with uncool air for an hour?

my my.....

15. by the way....
you're to be commended, as are the others, for making the trip to p-burg from out of the area....

all i had to do was walk up the hill, which is exactly what i did. but you, and a lot of others, took a long trip up to do what you felt impelled to do. so you oughta be commended for that man.

(hey......... "'man". that's what i'll shorten it to. been tryin' to figure that out ;) )

14. It sounds like it was wonderful!
I hate that I couldn't go. I did see the automopig on Wed when I drove through southside though, it was very cool and I nearly drove into the car in front of me staring at it!
