Very interesting indeed and I know a few people to whom I'll pass along that link.

As an amateur genealogist who runs a website for the Gilliland families --- www.gillilandtrails.org -- I can tell you that the John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh has some genealogical info on the Wetzels. Some married into my Gilliland family and moved to SE Ohio. At that time some of the family spelled the name both Whetsel and Wetzel.

If anyone's interested in more info, just drop me a line.

I have several of them and I've re-read every one of them many times.

I have done some digging into my family's history too. Pretty neat how the WWW can uncover so many things about one's distant relatives. One of my ancestors was one of the last people to loose his head on Tower hill. Killed on December 8th, 1746. The last Scotsman to be executed for the uprising of 1715.
