Former first lady stumps in West Virginia for Democrats

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- With the gold-and-blue Capitol dome in the background, Sen. Hillary Clinton spoke to an enthusiastic audience at the University of Charleston Friday afternoon, urging West Virginia voters to elect Anne Barth to Congress.

"She is not on the side of George Bush, Dick Cheney and Republican ideologues who have gotten our country into so much trouble," the former first lady said.

Referring to lavish vacations now being enjoyed by corporate executives whose companies are collapsing, Clinton said Barth "spent her summers at church camps and in service projects helping people, not at resorts."

During her remarks, Clinton strongly urged voters to vote for the Obama-Biden ticket and Democrats for all other positions.

Clinton praised Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., who attended the event.
