It wasn't too long ago we in Kanawha County had to endure the Kanawha County Commission members, Kent Carper and Dave Hardy pontificating on the financial condition of the City of Nitro. A financial condition that over the last months has been shown to be nothing more than a small cities temporary cash flow problem brought about when the WV State Board of Risk more than doubled the small cities liability insurance.
Not ones to let a political opportunity pass them by, we heard Carper and Hardy go on and on about the small city and their supposed mismanagement of city funds. But it appears they should have been taking a closer look at their own finances.
The county isn't even paying it's own bills.
Remember it wasn't too long ago that the County announced that it had found more than $800,000 it didn't even know it had and now we learn that they haven't even been paying their own bills. (perhaps that is how they find $800,000 - just stop paying the bills)
Now, brace yourself, did you know that Kanawha County Commission President approved a $15,000 raise for County Manager Brent Pauley. I find it appalling. When are we in Kanawha County going to hold Carper and Hardy's feet to the fire. It is time for someone to start taking a closer look at the Kanawha County Commission. I for one was appalled by Kent Carpers remarks 10/20/2008 when he was joking about who was going to bail the county out when it gets into financial trouble - NITRO.
Where is the Charleston Gazette on this coverage? They spent more than a year on the back of little old Nitro - over what we know now was an overblown media campaign based on personal agendas and not facts. Now we have acknowledgements of more than $800,000 of FOUND money and the vendors cutting off the county for unpaid bills.
Kent Carper you like putting your two cents in on everyone else - looks like you should get your own house in order.
Oh, I forgot - you don't have to worry about any media coverage. How much interest do you own in the Charleston Gazette? Where is the TV News on this issue of the counties lack of fiscal responsibility. Who's head will roll - Oh, no one Kent Carper financially rewards his incompetence.
