They called me yesterday to tell me it would be published within a couple of days, so it could be there today, tomorrow, or the day after that. I suspect they're only publishing it because it's highly critical of Mollohan and his challenger, Oliverio--but I don't care. I'm not feeling much loyalty toward anti-choice, anti-woman DINOs at the moment. I was infuriated to find out that Mollohan and Rahall were part of the thug group that Bart Stupak put together, and humiliated to see Mollohan standing there smiling on national TV while Obama signed an EO that made Hyde even stronger than it was before. My letter calls for any real Democrats left in West Virginia to PLEASE stand up and run for office, because there are a lot of us who are damned tired of having to choose between Republicans and Republicrats.
Just wanted to give you a heads-up.
:hi:
EDIT: Scratch that, it's in there TODAY. Tuesday March 30th. Here's the text of my letter:
Whatever happened to real Democrats?
Are there any liberal Democrats left in West Virginia’s Democratic Party? Could one of you please stand up and represent those of us who are sick and tired of being forced to choose between Republicans and Democrats who might as well be Republicans? None of the current candidates care one whit about defending my right as a woman to control my own body. Is it any wonder that WVU students often stay home on election day? Look at the dismal choices we have! Nobody can feel excited about choosing the slightly-lesser of two evils.
There is an enormous and untapped reservoir of voting power right here in Monongalia County just waiting for someone to be brave enough to stand for the values of the next generation. Just once, I’d like to be able to go to my polling place and cast my vote for a candidate I truly believe in. Just once I’d like see a candidate with the courage to go against the old, tired, conservative grain and be the hero of the younger generation, as well as quite a few older voters who have been waiting for the chance to vote for a real liberal all their lives.
I’m sure Rep. Alan Mollohan and state senator Mike Oliverio are nice enough men, but I can’t tell you how humiliating and depressing it was as a woman to find out that both of them think that the government should have the final say in my medical choices. I can’t tell you how angry I was when I realized that these two men are my only options unless I just refuse to vote at all—and that very well might happen. Alan Mollohan stood up on national television and smiled happily as President Obama signed an Executive Order that made me a second-class citizen. Mike Oliverio wants to change the WV Democratic Party platform from pro-choice to anti-choice! Neither of them are what this district needs right now, and I’m not the only one who’s sick and tired of the cookie-cutter Republicrats around here.
Give me a real Democrat—someone who’s tough and courageous and absolutely unafraid to stand up for women and minorities. If we quit falling for the Prisoner’s Dilemma, if we put aside our fears that Republicans might win if we dare to vote for a liberal instead of the usual Democrat-in-name-only, then I believe that a solid, pro-choice, pro-labor, pro-minority, pro-social justice liberal CAN win here. Someone just needs to be brave enough to try. Well I’m here, and I stand ready to help knock on doors and make phone calls. Real Democrats, I know you’re out there—are you listening? Do you hear us?
