All but one candidate supports collective bargaining for public employees

WHEELING - Five of the six Democrats running for the party's nomination for governor of West Virginia Thursday said public employees should have collective bargaining privileges, but without the right to strike.

South Charleston resident Arne Moltis was the only candidate who said he does not support collective bargaining for public employees, which is not permitted under West Virginia law.

All six candidates for the party's nomination spoke at a forum in Wheeling on Thursday. Republicans spoke on Tuesday.

Are teachers in West Virginia allowed to collectively bargain? I had know idea public employees in West Virginia didn't have collect bargaining rights, or am I misreading something?

3. No, WV teachers cannot collectively bargain.

They are represented by the WVEA and the WV American Federation of Teachers but collective bargaining for wages and benefits is prohibited.
