When I was doing research for the Campaign Underground, I came across this little gem on Rob Capehart, the republican candidate for governor's website.
"... Capehart is the Front-Runner! PROOF: BEING ATTACKED BY HIRED GUNS. (CHARLESTON) Republican front-runner, Rob Capehart is being attacked by campaign hired guns. ... "
Proof?? The body of the article looking for the vaunted evidence of slur, but all I found was 4-5 paragraphs of Capehart's campaign manager making baseless quotes. Proof is a very strong term that requires an elimination of doubt to support it. I found nothing that would even come close to the lofty goal of
PROOF.
I then scanned the archives of the state's news papers for any evidence of where this was published, but came up empty. So, I then emailed the Capehart campaign and asked them where were these attacks published, when were they made and, most importantly, who is specifically making these attacks? I have yet to receive a response.
Unfortunately, when I returned to Capehart's website, the accusations had been replaced by a positive piece about early voter registration. I searched his entire website for evidence, but could find none. I had to pull the above quote from the body of the Google link for Capehart's website (which is still active today).
Here is a link to the Google page (it may still have the quote).
Has anyone else seen evidence of these attacks? Or is this simply party drum-beating? I really hate posting this without an active link to the piece, but I figure y'all can keep this in mind for any future campaign claims by Capehart
here.
