Floods Rip Northern Panhandle
Gov. Bob Wise declared a state of emergency Thursday for 11 northern counties threatened by flood, urging residents "be very careful, use common sense and get out if they need to." --- The Associated Press

=====================================================================

This is the second major flooding of the Ohio River (9-1/2 feet above flood stage) since September in West Virginia's northern panhandle. Some folks still haven't recovered from the earlier flooding. (In fact, it has been only about a week since some business places re-opened their doors.)

1. Is this punishment from
their Jezuz? And what about the Carolina chlorine accident? I mean if the tsunami is punishment for wicked non-Christians, what are these?

3. Fifth flood experience here
since 01/01/2004. We live in southern Jefferson County in Ohio, across the river from the WV panhandle.

Our neighborhood has not fully recovered from Huricane Ivan's visit. Although the water did not reach the level that it did in September, we still received considerable damage from this latest event.

The creek near our house is still full of silt and debris from September, while our local officials try to get funding to do some clean up.

Hundreds of billions to rebuild Iraq, little or nothing for Americans affected by disaster... BUCK FUSH!!!!!

4. Yep! I hear you all . . .
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 02:40 PM by Petrushka
. . . Can't remember how many floods I've survived in my lifetime. Was born down in the valley and spent the first half of my life there. Finally moved to this hilltop farm in '71 . . . trading worries about flood waters for high winds--in addition to roads collapsing! Can't fool Momma Nature. (Or should that be: Can't fool AROUND with Momma Nature?)

Edited to add:
P.S.
Let's just hope that those AEP coal barges that got loose and hit the I-70 and the I-470 bridges at Wheeling (as well as the Pike Island Locks and Dam) didn't do any (or too much) damage! I mean: Iraq's "infrastructure" is much more important these days.

5. Hey neighbors!
I am in Ohio county. My parents house was hit bad in September, we lost all 3 of our cars, the finished basement and everything in it. Luckily they were safe this time, but so many people weren't. :(

7. Hello there!
All of this rainy weather is really making a mess of things, isn't it? Glad to hear that your family was/is safe.

According to WTOV-TV9 (and WTAE-TV4), one of the men who died in that tug-boat accident this morning was from Wheeling:

8. I just briefly saw that.
I haven't heard anything else, but wondered what they were thinking when I heard the story. Why they are doing this in flood waters is beyond me. I will have to watch the news tonight and see if they say anything else about the man from wheeling.
