Looks like Costco is coming to Milwaukee area
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 10:44 AM by Fighting Irish
This article is from last weekend, but I forgot to post it until now.

Interesting to note that the city of Grafton turned down Sam's Club for the same location.

Grafton - Costco Wholesale Corp. may build its first store in Wisconsin here or in metropolitan Milwaukee, the company's chairman said Friday.

Costco is considering anchoring a proposed 75-acre commercial complex at the northwest corner of I-43 and Highway 60, according to Jeff Brotman, who is also Costco's founder.

(snip)

He said Costco also is considering a location in metropolitan Milwaukee, but he declined to be more specific.

"We have another site in our sights," he said. "But we don't talk about them until we have them firmed up."

6. I would love that
The former Menard's store on 76th is still vacant. Maybe there? How big does a Costco have to be?

10. That whole area could use a boost
Menards moved up the street, and the car dealerships in the neighborhood moved as well (used to work in the area, so I'm very familiar with it). The Menards site would be great for a Costco, but I had heard rumors that the property had already been sold (the Amato Hyundai/Mazda complex next door was one rumored buyer, but since the competing Kia dealership across the street moved up the road to Mequon, this might have changed).

I'm sure there's plenty of space in the new Northridge development up the street. The new Pick 'n Save and Menards are nice. Not sure how much of the mall will be demolished (haven't been up there in a few months, so it may have already been torn down) but I would like to see some strong development go up there. The area really could use a boost.

11. They're great...
There are a few in the Chicago area. We still have part of an unexpired membership from Cincinnati, and I was hoping that they would open one here soon.

Good selection and, always a plus, their management is the "Anti Wal-Mart."

8. I think around here, Appleton gets first dibs on everything.
They seem to forget that some people actually need to drive to Green Bay to get things - including people on their way to and living in Door County.

There's a nice strip of land on 54/57 that would do nicely for some kind of development. :)
