Neighbor still drinks the kool-aid
I had a conversation with my back-yard neighbor last night...

She and her husband are confirmed "Dominionists" and follow Bush* without question. She "admires" both Laura Bush and Lynne Chaney. We used to work together and share some friends in common but rarely talk politics.

Last night I stepped over the line and related the story about Cheney being told to "go F**k youself!" in Mississippi yesterday....she immediately countered with two "shots"

1. That kind of language is because of "Hollywood", and;
2. She asked if I saw the "idiot" Sean Penn put his boat in the water and the boat sank because "he didn't check to see if it had a hole in it..."

I said, "No I didn't see anything like that" and then excused myself to go put dinner on the table.....

Where do they get this crap?

And they're attracted to the color....

That type of comment is just spiteful. I might have called her on it, said something to the effect of, "Well, I'm glad you find it so amusing that a boat that could have helped save lives is out of commission." Withering cold stares added as appropriate.

3. I'm sure she has no clue Cheney said that on the Senate floor
Some people are just hopeless and I agree with the previous post... just hit her.

4. Because of Hollywood?
I suspect the F*** yourself guy chose his language precisely because it is exactly what potty-mouth Dick himself said on the floor of the Senate.

7. She get s her info
from Fox news and right-wing radio. Most of them cannot think for themselves so they allow people like O'Reilly to tell them what to think. They except this b/c it is a part of their world view. You should engage her and challenge her beliefs. Give her the facts, if she still cannot think for herself then she is lost.

8. See how they change the subject?
You got to keep it on point, they can't argue, because they don't know the facts. Go get em.

9. What was that bit about Penn's boat sinking?
Ive heard it a couple times, but not on the news, only in the rumor mill. I did hear that he participated in pulling out a couple dozen people, though.

11. I just did a search on sean penn boat sink
and came up with an australian 'journalist' for the Herald Sun (Murdoch paper?) claiming that he 'forgot to plug a hole in the boat'. All the RW blogs picked it up and repeated the story, mostly word for word, so they could have a laugh at a guy who ACTUALLY WENT TO NOLA, GOT WET AND FILTHY HELPING RESCUE 40 PEOPLE.

Anyone know anything more?

That gives me quite an insight about my neighbor....

13. Some of these poor wretchs
listen to 10 hours a day of Limbaugh, Hannity, and the likes. It has a cult-like effect on their mind. It would be inhuman in another context but they do it to themselves.

Penn is not a public servant/representative and what he does is not much of the public's political business. What Cheney does is.
