Someone told me over the weekend that DPW Chair, Joe Wineke, said this late last week. I've googled to find it, but came up with nothing. Course I probably don't have the nack.

Can anyone verify this?

And what's up with all the new DPW staff? We just got all new staff a year ago. This doesn't look good, innocent or not.

I spose its gonna be another one of those summers where the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. :eyes:

State Party Chairman Joe Wineke said no policy changes are in place here.

"I don't think the national party has ever dictated how states can raise money," he said.

In an e-mailed fundraising solicitation this morning, national party Chairman Howard Dean wrote:

"As we move toward the general election, the Democratic Party has to be the party of ordinary Americans, not Washington lobbyists and special interests. So, as of this morning, if you're a federal lobbyist, or if you control political action committee donations, we won't be accepting your contribution."

Were you surprised? I wasn't surprised. You'd think with all the good will this generated after Obama and Howard Dean set the tone, we'd be hearing something a little different. When you have a lobbyist for a chair, what else would he say?

6. Another exerpt:

Wineke said the state party has already received the maximum it can from political action committees. He said he isn't banking on money from lobbyists.
"There isn't a hell of a lot of lobbyists giving us money," he said. "They're members of the (Republican) Party."

Two points....we've already received the maximum in PAC money??? How much is that? Where did it go?

Point two: Ummmmm.....Joe weren't you a lobbyist? So...maybe not ALL lobbyists are Repubs eh?

7. PAC's and lobbyists

Just a quick point, but political action committees doesn't equal "lobbyist".

For example, Sen. Feingolds PAC, Progressive Patriots, could have given the DPW money which would count against the maximum dollar amount that a political organization/campaign like the DPW can raise. I don't think anyone would label that group as a "lobbyist", but the money that a particular PAC gave the DPW would count against the total amount the DPW, or any political org/campaign can raise from those types of groups.

Your point about where it goes is valid, but the treasurers report won't say what a particular amount of money from a PAC was spent on any more than it would list what my dues to the DPW were spent on specifically.

That said, I'm not defending one side or the other. Personally, I think Sen. Obama is taking the high road by not allowing the DNC to take in any more money from those groups and it is a great decision.
