job forum??????
Too damn many du'ers are unemployed or under employed.
If we don't hang together we will all hang separeately --that sort of thing
Don't really know how to do this, i but think something must be done.

How bout if you are looking respond with what you are looking for and what your geographic area is. and then we (i hope) can respond by pm or what ever means float your boat.

Also, if you hear of a job--let us know.

It would be nice if this would work

5. Looking for a science job
I have lots of experience in the food industry with a focus on quality. I would really like to get out of quality in the food industry, though. I have a Bachelor's in biology. I have a baby and a stay at home husband so I need at least mid thirties not to be too poor. Unfortunately, about the only jobs meeting that criteria that I can get interviews for are jobs in quality in the food industry.

6. Networking
That's way up there in Find-A-Job priorities task lists.

Good thinking, Dembotoz! I was lucky enough this week to have had a friend thinking of me, so he e-mailed me a posting for a position I might be really be a natural for... if I can find a second job that will actually help me pay bills. It's not a full-time position. The good news is I could still continue to draw (partial) unemployment benefits, so I'd have time to look around for that other income stream.

I'm here in Mil-town and have a skill set that probably qualifies me for any number of jack-of-all-trades/master-of-none job descriptions, involving some combination of publishing, basic research, project management and communications/software/graphics skills, with an emphasis on listening/interviewing/report writing. Years of work in a variety of manufacturing environments probably don't count for as much as they once did, but on the plus side I'd probably earn points for some marketing/entrepreneurial/creative past achievements.

The only thing I can think of to add to this thread is that people might want to chip in with favorite job search stories, strategies, websites, ideas -- expand the thread to include as many potential network-contributors as possible.

"Persistence, energy and effort" are also way up there among the Find-A-Job priorities, I'm told.

9. My job search stories all end poorly - no favorites
Been an underemployed Tech Writer for 6 years. Been actively looking for a job in the central part of the state for 4 years. Not a lot of jobs in the field around here - so I've been filling in the free time with freelancing and getting Dems elected.

Thank goddess MadAsHell has a good job or I'd have been living in a cardboard box a long time ago.

8. Dane Co (and area) May 29th
Passing this on:

Letter of Invitation

“We’re Looking for Work” Town Meeting #3

Friday, May 29th, 4:50 to 9:15 PM

Stoughton High School Cafetorium, 600 Lincoln, Stoughton, WI

Have you or a friend been laid-off, downsized, or part-timed & now you’re looking for work?

We have organized a THIRD town meeting for workers who have lost their jobs, been part-timed or are underemployed. Workers and their partners living in Stoughton, southern Dane, northern Rock counties or other communities are invited to attend.

This free town meeting begins with a meal for families. The event brings together workers and their partners in a friendly environment to learn about health care resources, job search resources, and stretching your budget in hard times. Registration is free. Call early

To register call (608) 873-2612

Persons at the last meeting, May 5th, said they are most interested in learning how to stay in their home or apartment. Thus the May 29th meeting will provide this workshop:

“Fighting to Stay in Your Home or Apartment During Hard Times”

Part I Developing a Family Budget to Help You Negotiate with Your Banker or Landlord
Part II Foreclosure & Eviction Law -- When & Where to Seek Legal Advice & How to Re-negotiate Rent Payments
Part III Federal Mortgage Adjustment Programs & How to Re-negotiate Mortgage Payments
Part IV Might “House Sharing” Be a Partial Solution for You?

We ask you to do these things:

1. Call the above number. Register now. Tell them how many people will be joining you. We invite you, your partner and any children you may wish to bring along. We will not be providing sitter services but some families bring small children and that is fine. Some bring their older children. That is good because it helps them to understand the situation your family is in and they see that many other families are in the same situation.

2. Call, invite and bring along any relatives, friends or former co-workers who have been laid off. Invite their partners also. Ask them to call the registration number or you call it for them with their names and telephone numbers, address, etc.

3. If you attended one of the first two meetings, please bring your three-ring resource manual to the meeting.

The town meeting is sponsored by the Stoughton Job Networking and Family Support Group and the Stoughton Chapter of the WI Alliance of Retired Americans and is co-sponsored by the Stoughton Area Resource Team, Inc. (START), American Federation of Teachers-WI, Unity Church of Madison, AFT-WI Retirees Chapter and other organizations

Lastly, with regard to the meeting topic avoiding foreclosure or eviction, it is regretful but many workers presently unemployed may be unemployed for 6 months or longer during this recession/depression. It is critical that your family avoid foreclosure/eviction. There are now programs to help you avoid these situations but, like everything else these days, the issues are complex and you have to study the issues. So please register today (the line is 24/7) and together we will learn about how we can keep our families in our homes during these most difficult times.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Organizing Committee member Buzz Davis at 608-873-4886.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you and your family Friday, May 29th at the Stoughton high school. 600 Lincoln Ave., at 4:50 PM!

14. Sorry to all who are in situation like this... we BOTH will be without jobs
Edited on Tue Jun-02-09 11:01 AM by Serial Mom
- first time in our 40 year marriage. I knew about my layoff since end of February - School District closing a school end of June and since I was low in seniority as admin assistant, one of the ladies at the closed school will take my job beginning June 30.

But in the MEANTIME, my husband lost his job March 31 - NO SEVERANCE and NO INSURANCE as of midnight the day they laid him off! They didn't even give us a chance to order new presciption meds! Thank goodness for Obama - otherwise we may not be able to afford COBRA. Right now we have paid for 3 months of health insurance and 6 months left of COBRA under the reduced 35% rate - after that ?!?!?

So does anyone need "two for one" for anything? BTW, I am admin assistant with great MS Word and design skills and my husband is Project Manager or IT Manager in computer but is also good in sales and sales management.

But I know that they've also got a soft-spot for other areas, too.

And, yes, I am qualified to answer for her. ;)

17. Metro Milwaukee --- look out, a bit of a rant here too!
but willing to relocate.

Worse thing is my husband had interviewed with a company 3 times. On that last interview (a Friday morning) they said a job offer would be coming Monday/Tuesday but they asked for outline of how he would run the position. Tuesday the next week the CEO calls and said he got behind in his work and would send job offer later that day or Wednesday for sure. No contact since (it's been 3 weeks - husband followed up with an email last week with people's linked in comments/recommendations)! So my husband gave them a multi-page outline how he would run the department/implement new procedures for up to a year, they take it and now nothing!

What is with people who lie like this and the general rudeness of companies?

Had to get it out of my system - thanks!

18. I hate to say this
And I'm sure you've thought it already, but I bet their taking your husband's plan and handing it to the 20-something they hired for half the money who'll have no clue how to implement the plan. Hope the greedy bastards go down in flames if that's the case.

19. That's why I use recruiters (reluctantly)
and real estate agents. The level of decorum they offer reduces the chance of crap like this taking place.

20. We have a lab position at my company
It has been open for over a month now and was only posted one place, a certain television station's website, that is not really a local. There have been a few candidates, but they have all been determined to be unacceptable.
I don't think that they are making enough of an effort to find someone and I have been going to work every day with a sense of dread because I feel buried under all the work.
If you have have experience in a lab/quality position in the food industry, please PM me and I will tell you more about the position and how to apply if you are interested.
The position would be in commuting distance from Oshkosh/Fond du Lac and is located west of there.
