We filed for an extension when it was announced in the summer and now the Unemployment office is saying that my husband concealed employment so they are wanting back $3000.00!!! We do not have jobs and are pretty much living in poverty anyway. We don't have have $3.00 much less $3000.00!! My husband turned in the part time work and wages that he did when he earned them back in the spring and then unemployment ran out. We moved back to Illinois in July since we had a home here already and when they announced an extenstion on the unemployment he filed again. They paid about $1800.00 on that when we got a letter stating it had ran out. He had found a job in September by then so we didn't worry about. In October, my husband ended up in the hospital and his employer let him go since he had not been there long. When another extension was announced in November, he filed again but they never paid on that one. Now we get a letter stating that he didn't tell them about the work he died for the second extenstion and he owes them $3000.00. (Not sure how they came up with that amount) You cant get through to the Unemployment office by phone, my husband has sat and dialed for hours on end, day after day. We obvioiusly don't have the money but what is worrying me is that they are also saying they could prosecute him because he withheld information, which he didn't but we have no way of proving that. We just spoke with an attorney who said it would cost us more for an attorney than the $3000.00 so the best thing to do is to just pay it, that's nice but we don't have $3000.00. I am scared to death, we are just trying to get on with our lives and try and get jobs in this horrible economy and now we have this to deal with. PLease don't rag on me for paragrahps or spelling, I am extremely upset and just need some help. Anyone who has any information on Wisconsin Unemployment law or knows someone we can contact, please let me know!!! Thank you, Tina
