My motivation for Drinking Liberally has become greatly diminished
Ever since the world instantly became a better place on November 4, 2008, and continued to improve on January 20, 2009, my motivation to host Drinking Liberally has greatly diminished. I've facetiously said that everything's fine now, and I don't need to pay attention, much less care about politics. And after most of a decade of horror and outrage at the Bush-Cheney Misadministration, I almost mean it. Sure, there's really important stuff going on, e.g. making sure the Wisc. Supreme Court isn't totally loaded with corporate shills, but... my motivation is just not there.

I'll ask if you've felt the same way about things political in the past few months. My approval of Obama's administration generally runs high, and my disdain for most Republicans is still as potent as ever. Yet my desire to express it in any real way is nearly as abundant as .... uh, I can't think of any analogies. :o

Thoughts?

5. n/t
as the host of Drinking Liberally, I ask you to come next time and show me how it's done. It's been so long I'm rather rusty on that mode of drink.

2. as mad eye moody would say--Constant vigilance!!!
oh to live in a county with a democratic majority.

I live in ozaukee, and i still have LOTS to be in pain over.

I would assume you might have a hot button or two left.

do we have access to affordable health care?

did scott walker, jim sensenbrenner and paul ryan run off together to
join a commune in Tibet????

The job is not done yet.

4. n/t
of course the job's not done yet. I'm tentatively part of the Walker recall effort that's in its infancy at the moment..

So you're telling me I can't just sit back and let Obama take care of everything?

(some Milwaukee area DUers are more than welcome to chime in at any time too, TYVM.......)

6. truth be told-i fancy myself a bit or a lot to the left of Mr Obama
leaving everything to our fine president is akin to ordering the finest steak
from the best restaruant in town and the leaving after the salad.

I have tried to get to several of the get togethers and the schedules just never worked out.

3. They struggle is always there.
Keep in mind there are those out there who wish to take away everything we have gained.

7. My two cents
Work has interfered more often than not on Wed nights plus lack of any reminder system set in place by myself. Maybe a text message system to those with cells phones with a text plan willing to get Drinking Liberally spam might help in body count those nights.

2nd thought, I've seen the event splinter off into separate groups at the nights I did attend. I would hope I'd be on first name basis with more here on DU, but sadly am not. It appears people naturally converse with those they already know well, and shy away from making introductions.

Hope the event can survive, and I'd be willing to get spam if someone wants to send it.

11. I felt the same way the first couple times I went
Then I got pushy and just started horning in on conversations. Thus far nobody has told me to fuck off so I guess that strategy has worked.

I hope to see you there sometime and while we certainly should make a better effort to welcome newcomers I hope that you will give us another shot and just say "hey!"

14. I'll be there again
at other meetups, and will elbow my way in on conversations if I have too. No hard feelings here.

8. We suck. And heartily apologize.
Snow makes us suckier, and MS makes me tired.

We got out of the habit, and then our schedule got neglected. Now we've forgotten which Wednesday is which, etc etc...

Forgive us?

10. Sadly I've gotten to the point where I'm too tired to even follow the news
I can now completely understand how some people were so exhausted just surviving that they had no time or energy for politics. Keeping us poor and working to death is clearly a good way to disenfranchise.

I work every other Wednesday night and unfortunately it always coincides with Drinking Liberally :(

15. When?
It's the third Wednesday of the month, right? I second the notion of warning people a week in advance. I also recommend stating the actual day and date on your blog.
