Representative James Sensenbrenner, the longtime Republican lawmaker from Wisconsin, will undergo radiation treatment for prostate cancer.

A statement issued by his office indicated that Mr. Sensenbrenner was told that the cancer was detected at an early stage and had not spread.

Mr. Sensenbrenner, 66, plans to undergo treatment over the next several months, but his office reported that he intended to keep his legislative schedule, at home and in Washington.

Last month, Senator Christopher Dodd, Democrat of Connecticut, underwent surgery for prostate cancer.
