Sheboygan

Our daughter got a job in Sheboygan and will be relocating there. Are there any areas/neighborhoods she should avoid? Right now, she's hoping to find an apartment somewhere between downtown and the lake. Thanks.

1. I spent a couple of days there

in May...had the evenings free so I drove around town to see what the neighborhoods were like. I didn't see any obviously bad (e.g. deteriorated or blighted ...I used to do "windshield surveys" for hud housing grants in the 70's and never got over the habit when I go to a new city)) neighborhoods and, in fact, I thought the place was remarkably well maintained. I suppose there could be some bad neighborhoods but they weren't immediately recognizable to me. All-in-all I really liked the place.

2. Try to avoid the low-rent areas.

Areas dominated by over/under house apartments, usually owned by a couple companies.

16th and 17th street north of Superior have had a number of dope busts lately.

Most of the apartments between downtown, (8th street,) and the Lake are pretty good neighborhoods.

3. Yes. the entire city.

Sheboygan is the epicenter of weirdness and criminal stupidity in the Badger State.

I suspect it's something in the water.

I happen to be a long-time resident of Sheboygan, and Sheboygan is not Milwaukee. :grr:
