Citizen Action of Wisconsin: BadgerCare Plus Basic another smart step by Doyle administration on health care access
1/21/2010

Milwaukee: Today Governor Jim Doyle announced a new innovative reform to expand desperately needed access to basic health care coverage. The proposal will allow individuals who are eligible for the new BadgerCare Plus Core Plan to buy-into the plan at cost. There are over 18,000 individuals on the waiting list for the Core Plan. Childless adults who make under 200% of the federal poverty level are eligible for the program.

“This is a very smart step to take given the desperate need for access to basic health coverage,” said Robert Kraig, Executive Director of Citizen Action of Wisconsin. “It remains to be seen how many individuals in the eligible population will be able to afford the premiums, but it makes a good sense to open the program to them and provide another possible option for coverage.”

“This is a good short term step to take as we wait for desperately needed national reform to guarantee access to quality affordable health care for everyone in Wisconsin,” Kraig continued. “This reform further builds on Governor Doyle’s excellent record of expanding access to public health insurance options, which will be one of the chief legacies of his administration.”

Thank you, Governor Doyle, for trying to do something for the 6% of us living in Wisconsin who have no health insurance. :patriot:

1. I got into BadgerCare Plus last June and so far it has worked out great.
I had a physical exam and had a mole removed at no cost. My cost per month for 3 hypertension drugs is $16.

2. Glad to hear it!
I told my doctor I thought Wisconsin would get Universal Health Coverage for its residents long before its accomplished on a national level.
