Woman bitten by bear at Wis. zoo, fingers severed

(AP) – 5 hours ago

MANITOWOC, Wis. — Police say a bear bit off a woman's fingers at a Wisconsin zoo after she ignored barriers and warning signs to
try to feed the animal.

The Lincoln Park Zoo in Manitowoc closed after the incident Friday morning. Police say the 47-year-old woman lost a thumb and a
forefinger, and two other fingers were partially severed.

The woman's boyfriend was bitten as he tried to pry the bear's mouth off her hand, but he didn't lose any fingers. Her 3-year-old
granddaughter wasn't injured.

A mayor's office statement says alcohol played a factor.

It's unclear which of two Asiatic black bears bit the women when she put her hand through their enclosure's fence. Police tell the Herald Times
Reporter the bears likely won't be euthanized.

6. I stupidly did that as teen. I put my hand into a black bear cub pit and came out with
a wee baby one attached to my arm. It was convinced I was going to give it a bottle and of course I didn't have one. I gave it lots of loves then pried it off and put it back. It's a miracle I didn't get chomped or caught.

Weirdly, that was the same weekend some 10 yo kid swam in a polar bear pool at another zoo and lost his life in about the most gruesome manner I can imagine.

9. Before I got to that part I was thinking she had to had been drinking.
And who in their right mind goes to a zoo after drinking?

As to the bears not likely to be euthanized it is appropriate that it doesn't happen. It would be appropriate if the woman was euthanized.

11. How long until she hires a Lawyer to sue the zoo?
She'll probably try to say that warning signs aren't sufficient deterrents when it comes to drunken morons.

Real nice example that she's setting for her granddaughter also. If you want to have fun when you get older, get drunk and do something stupid while you're watching a 3 year old.

I hate to sound cruel, but geeeeez..........:wow:

12. Well, Bot, it just goes to show you...
Don't mess with Wisconsin, and don't mess with Bay-Airs. And run like hell when you get the two combined.

(I used to live near Manitowoc, but never went to the zoo. They don't belong in a zoo.)

:hi:

15. I'm grateful that the bears won't be put down
It's quite obvious that the woman didn't heed posted warnings and still chose to mess around. I absolutely despise what alcohol does to people. While I don't endorse prohibition, I think some people like this should stopped from drinking for their own welfare. What an idiot she was.

16. Wow, what a maroon.
That woman is lucky that she didn't die. If she tries to sue anybody they should throw her ass back into the bear cage.
