or is this really the future of post-Industrial Milwaukee?

Nets Will Be Placed Under Hoan Bridge To Catch
Concrete

MILWAUKEE --
Construction crews are expected to begin work on the Hoan Bridge in Milwaukee Thursday.
Plastic nets will be placed under the bridge to catch falling concrete.
Within the year, the Department of Transportation said more than a dozen pieces of concrete were found on Jones Island directly below the bridge.
The net will cover about 200 feet under the bridge to try to prevent any more concrete from falling.
The department of transportation said the falling pieces have not hurt the bridge's structural integrity.
Drivers should prepare for lane closures along the 2.5 mile-long bridge.

Concrete Collapse: Installation Was Wrong
By Mick Trevey
MILWAUKEE – <snip>
The decorative concrete façade panel removed on Thursday was next to the panel that collapsed last month and killed 15-year-old Jared Kellner. Milwaukee County said the panels were installed in the same way.
The panels were designed to hang on the parking garage and be held in place with four metal rods. However, only two pieces of metal appear to have been used and Thursday’s removal of one of the panels gave insight about why that happened.

“They chose saving money rather than saving lives,” Cannon said. “That decision cost the life of Jared Kellner and caused serious injuries to the Wosinski family.”
Milwaukee County’s Director of Transportation and Public Works, Jack Takerian, said it was not yet known how many panels were installed in this fashion.
“I can’t answer where other panels are as far as installation,” he said.
