Are we proud of Paul Ryan
for giving the rebuttal to Pres.Obama's State of the Union speech? Gosh, I can hardly wait.

1. They are pushing him hard for bigger things
His youth, "good looks" (I myself don't see it), nice family, and above all his hard-right political positions make him a rising star. Is there anybody in the 1st District (as it comes out of redistricting) who can take over that seat?

2. They want to give him sole control over budget cuts
Hours before the president arrives in the House chamber to deliver his address, Ryan will be the focal point of a floor fight over how House Republicans intend to handle the budget.

The GOP intends to offer a resolution giving the budget chairman sole responsibility for developing a plan to cut nondefense spending at least to 2008 levels for the rest of fiscal 2011.

Democrats argue that would give one lawmaker--Ryan--nearly unilateral authority over the country’s immediate spending decisions.

Speaking on the House floor on Thursday, Minority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said the implication “is that Mr. Ryan unilaterally can set a number which has not been agreed to by the House, but under the power granted in this resolution would bind the House to a number to which it never agreed.”

3. No.
No. Not proud.

On the flip side, some website recently pointed out that the SotU response isn't necessarily a benefit to the responder. Think of Bobby Jindal, for example who was also a "rising young star" of the GOP before his SotU response. Let's hope for all we're worth that Ryan suffers the same fate.

And to the poster who asked if there was someone to replace Ryan? I doubt it. It's a pretty ridiculously right wing district. And while the gerrymandering might ratchet it down just a bit in order to splice some more right leaning areas onto swingier districts, they're definitely not going to make it anything less than perfectly safe for republican hooligans.

4. Let's not give up on the 1st District!
This isn't the Fox Valley we're talking about. Janesville, Racine and Kenosha are good working class towns.

This is the district Les Aspin represented for many years.

6. True, but
the district's changed since those days. Yes, it's not Fox Valley, but it's darn close. The "God, Guns, and (hating) Gays" campaign took hold here HARD. We can't even get a strong Democratic candidate to RUN much less win. No offense to Mr. Heckenlively, but I don't imagine most folks in the district even knew he was running before Nov 2.

Actually, considering that Paul "Roadmap to Destroy America" Ryan could only dredge up 76% of the vote when he was as close to unopposed as possible might be a good sign?

That said, off the top of anyone's head do they know what the rest of the state delegation from the are looks like? Lazich and Stone are the Senator and Rep. for Greendale, where I live. They're NOT particularly known for their moderation. I have a feeling they're not the outliers.

5. Is Wisconsin wealthy?
Have the rich taken over Dairyland?

How else does one explain your elected officials. How many will vote for blue collar principles?

Wait until Ryan's Contract on America gets widespread notice!
