I went to my first county Democrats meeting

I know, what took me so long?
It is a small group, only about a dozen people. I would like to contribute but fear that might be limited due to work and family committments. I also fear that maybe it is disrespectful to long time members to try to do too much.
Are other Wisconsin DUers involved in their local parties? What is the extent of your involvement. Any suggestions?

1. I've been involved for quite a few years.

I was a vice chair for about 5 years, chair of the ed. committee for 2 or 3 (suggested the ed. committee & then got stuck with it). Most long-term members are likely to be happy to have fresh blood come in with a willingness to do things. Our current chair was only a member for a couple of years before we forced his position on him. And he's doing a really wonderful job.

BTW, what county, if you don't mind my asking? (I'm in Chippewa Co.)

3. Get involved!

Try to make TWO dozen...then THREE dozen...that's how it works!

4. What do you have to offer?

Ask them what you can do. Check with the District Committee too. Maybe they need help with something.

You could also volunteer on a political campaign if they are close enough. It could be daily, 5 days a week or as needed basis. You could volunteer to help out with mailings, phone banking or door to door.

I've helped out with federal and local election campaigns. Created database application to assign and track pollworkers in a large county. I've worked with the District in compiling information and laying out our District Directory for our Annual Dinner since 1997. Did a website back in the late 1990's for our county party. Now I do our District website. I started out years ago doing voter registration at work and going through targeted neighborhoods.

There are a lot of possibilities and you don't have to be totally involved. If they do their part of communicating with you on what is happening it may open up possibilities on how you can help. And you alone need to decide what you can do and want to do.

5. Welcome

I have been involved with the local party for serveral years now.
Take your time, feel it out. Moving into spring and summer--better activities-do they have a county fair booth, do they march in parades, do they have a picnic? Stuff you can do to get your feet wet.
Your congressional district convention is coming up soon. Sign up to be a delegate. Many couties have a much greater number of potential delegate spots than they have folks wanting to go. You need to make sure your membership is in to the state party. State convention is in June i believe. Think it is in milwaukee. Again, many counties have many more delegate spots then potential delegates, so if the schedule works??? sign up. You either love conventions or you will hate them.
Sometimes du sort of threatens to do a meet up at the state convention..... With a small membership there should be opportunity for you to hold office if you so desire--easy to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond and really easy to be a big fish in a really small pond.

6. Volunteer for something. Take ownership of something the group wants to do...

...but nobody wants to take on. Volunteering goes a long way to make up for contributing, and another doer is always appreciated.
