Walker says National Guard is prepared

Associated Press
8:05 a.m. CST, February 11, 2011

MADISON, Wis. —
Gov. Scott Walker says the Wisconsin National Guard is prepared to respond if there is any unrest among state employees in the wake of his announcement that he wants to take away nearly all collective bargaining rights.

Walker said Friday that he hasn't called the Guard into action, but he has briefed them and other state agencies in preparation of any problems.

Walker says he has every confidence that state employees will continue to show up for work and do their jobs. But he says he's been working on contingency plans for months just in case they don't.

Walker says he's not anticipating any problems.

"There are some who feel like...that the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is, Bring 'em on! We've got the force necessary to deal with the security situation." -- Commander in Chief (George) Walker (Bush), Goobernator of Wississippi

1. Wow! And he had extra security at his press conference
The governor also said the National Guard is at the ready to take control of state prisons if correctional officers strike or take job actions. No union official has endorsed such a job action, but Walker said he was prepared for any contingency.

The Capitol news conference where Walker announced his plan had unusually high security, with four Capitol police offers stationed outside of it and checking on who was attending the event.

2. Elections have consequences
I am not a state worker and dislike Walker. Walker is a class warrior working for his wealthy handlers against Wisconsin's workers. Had I been a State of Wisconsin employee, I would have worked my ass off for Barrett and other Democrats. If members of the State unions had worked harder for Barrett et. al. the specter collective bargaining elimination and scabs may not have been inevitable. Two years is a long way off, and my guess is that by then Wisconsin's laws protecting workers and collective bargaining won't be much different than Alabama's.

5. I think you are making a big mistake
Believing Walker is working on ego in his destruction of State of Wisconsin collective bargaining ignores the facts. John Kasich of Ohio is doing exactly what Walker is doing. The fact is, the same creeps controlling Walker also control Kasich. This is the result of a decades long class war that has resulted in the absolute defeat of the workers as a political influence. Wonder how many State workers celebrated Reagan's 100th birthday. "Stupid is as stupid does", and elects the Reagan's, Walker's, and Kasich's.

7. Look at how he's framing the situation
He injects the idea that state workers are likely to be violent and destructive, and the only prudent course is to have force ready to counter them. Can't you picture the mob of archivists, driving examiners, and DNR specialists converging on the Capitol with rocks and pitchforks?

8. How did State collective bargaining units get living wages for their workers?
There are times to get up and fight. Walker is in the face of bargaining unit members and calling the bluff of members and leadership. Against the flow, the UPS union had a successful strike. If the public workers want to show Walker and Wisconsin that they are not a chickenshit, has-been, organization infested with just too many rats, they will call a one-day, informational, general strike and protest in Madison. Why not test the National Guard and the strength of the aristocrats? If the collective bargaining units refuse to fight using the power they supposedly have, strikes and peaceful protests, what good are they anyway?

10. We've got to reframe it
this is about your neighbors and mine not being able to:

buy a house from a non-union realtor
buy products from non-union stores
buy home heating oil from a non-union jobber
buy a beer from a non-union tavern

we're all part of the economy and you can't hurt one part without destroying the other...

11. I can not agree with you on the "re-frame"
The controversy is framed correctly, us v. them, the workers becoming servants for the aristocrats. The fools that vote Republican will only change when they realize their lot is more closely tied to the inner city unemployed than the Koch Brothers. That will only come with plenty of pain and a world of economic fear. Walker's masters believe the time has come to significantly lower the standard of living for Wisconsin workers, and turn back the clock to a better time for the aristocracy. It sure looks to me like their plan is working well.

12. In that sense,
I agree...

question:

Who do you think Walker's Masters are?

I want to know who is orchestrating this train wreck.

13. Calling out the National Guard? In *Madison*? Got it covered.
Just gotta figure out how much beer to have delivered. Traditionally, we throw a block party when this happens...
