Time for some people to get a grip

By Eugene Kane of the Journal Sentinel

Feb. 14, 2011

Most of us realize Wisconsin is changing from a blue state to a red one and that makes some people upset.
But is it really time to call out the National Guard?

The latest "red state" proposal from Gov. Scott Walker was a plan to take away most collective bargaining rights for most state workers, including prison guards. Anticipating a strong reaction from union officials and members, Walker also decided to reveal he had already alerted the National Guard to prepare for any possible problems with upset union workers, particularly in the case of walk-outs or a work stoppage.

It was a remarkable statement from a new governor about a tactic most voters think of as a last resort to be used in case of extreme weather conditions or cases of civil unrest. Frankly, for anyone who remembers the 1967 riots in Milwaukee, calling out the National Guard is nothing to be taken lightly.

(Take note: This is another Black History Month lesson for some of you.)

3. Also see the "Bay View Massacre"

Calling the National Guard on workers fighting for their rights has a dark and horrific history in this state and should not be taken lightly.

4. Walker is a frightened little man.
Let him call out the Guard--it'll be the death of him, politically. Can you say "recall?"

6. National Guardman calls "bullshit"

“Maybe the new governor doesn’t understand yet - but the National Guard is not his own personal intimidation force to be mobilized to quash political dissent,” said Robin Eckstein, a former Wisconsin National Guard member and Iraq war veteran who lives in Wisconsin and has been active with Vote Vets.

7. Wow, he is a paranoid nutjob
I do hope this backfires on the Republicans and Wisconsin will shift blue in the next election cycles. This is beyond absurd in Madison right now.
