Recall site for Sen. Alberta Darling (R) SE WI
http://recallalbertadarling.org/

We are now on Twitter!

Join 1186 other concerned citizens (and growing!) and pledge to support our efforts to recall Senator Darling should she vote for the Budget Repair bill!
We encourage all supporters to take the pledge. You do not have to live in Senate district 8, or even Wisconsin, to support a recall.

Our Pledge to Senator Darling

We are disgusted by Governor Walker's union-busting budget repair bill, of which you are one of the leading champions. We are even more disgusted by the shameful political tactics being used. It is an insult to democracy. If this bill passes in its present form, those of us legally able, pledge to sign a recall petition. Further, as we are able, we will contribute time, money, and / or passion to ensure that recall efforts are successful and you are defeated

4. A rough guess, 20,000
The exact number depends on how many votes for governor last year in her district, which means adding up totals for parts of counties and wards in Milwaukee in addition to the jurisdictions that are totally within her district. In any case, many more signatures should be gathered to account for the inevitable challenges.

11. This site gives some great info about all the recall
efforts, including what has been filed (Kapanke) number of signatures needed, dates for filings, etc.

5. Background info
(transferred from the other post about this to keep it all together)

Alberta represents the North Shore in Milwaukee County plus Washington County, parts of Ozaukee and Waukesha counties, and a few wards of Milwaukee.

In 2008 Alberta's Democratic challenger came within just 1,007 votes (49.45%). Other especially vulnerable Republicans: Randy Hopper in District 18 (Dodge, Fond du Lac, and Winnebago counties), who won by 185 votes (challenger 49.83%); and Dan Kapanke in District 32 (LaCrosse and nearby counties) who won by 2,507 (challenger 48.53%). The others either ran unopposed or won with 56% (Harsdorf) or 80% (Grothman--grrr).

7. Not all of Washington County. Grothman is from West Bend.
Much to my dad's dismay.

8. You have to be close
You have to be close with Darling. I'm working a lot with the Lazich recall, and rumor was you'll be done pretty soon and some of your volunteers and organizers are coming over to help us out. (We've been low priority due to the overwhelming redness of the district.)

9. So glad to hear this.... I was shocked to find out she won.
Initially wasn't Sheldon Wasserman considered the winner of this race? That seems so long ago.... I hope Mr. Wasserman will considered running in a special election....

I read this on another site. http://shorewood.patch.com/articles/darl...cal-career
Darling in the Fight of Her Political Career
Republican senator opens campaign office as recall effort intensifies.
By Marie Rohde | March 26, 2011
...
In the middle of her fifth term in the Senate, Darling has just opened a campaign headquarters at 311 W. Silver Spring Drive in Glendale. She plans to soon open a second office in Menomonee Falls in the sprawling 8th District, which also includes Whitefish Bay, Shorewood and Fox Point.
...
Since March 3, hundreds of volunteers have fanned out through the district collecting signatures on recall petitions, mostly on weekends. Rowe declined to say how many signatures have been obtained, but said he was confident that his group would exceed the required 20,343 needed by April 29 by 5,000 to 8,000.
...
Darling said she has received death threats and has had to be escorted into the Capitol by guards.

Indeed, an undercover police officer assigned to watch the Republican headquarters in Glendale resulted in an arrest – but the man charged was a Darling supporter.

Anyone here heard about this women receiving death threats? I remember the debates when she accused Dr. Wasserman of spreading lies about her illness... " Senator Darling puts out press release charging her opponents with waging a "negative smear campaign spreading lies about Darling's health."http://www.620wtmj.com/shows/charliesykes/45186302.html

10. It was very close last time
She won by just 1,000 votes (about 1% of the vote). Like most Republicans, though, she acts like she won a landslide and can do whatever she likes.

Where was it that I heard every politician gets threats, even death threats, but they mostly don't make them public. That says something very disturbing about our society, doesn't it?

12. They were out in force in Menomonee Falls today
to get signatures to recall her. I'd be willing to bet they didn't get as many their as they do in Shorewood.

14. I have heard of two excellent candidates
I also read somewhere that they are awaiting polling data and will decide between themselves who is the stronger candidate. Such practicality is so rare, it takes one's breath away.
