GOP Senate leader Scott Fitzgerald said he would have let Democrats debate the package and bring up amendments had they showed up Friday. But they didn’t, so Fitzgerald was planning to have his GOP senators prepare the bill for a final up or down vote when the Democrats return.
No debate and no amendments will be allowed. At least one Democrat needed to be there to hold a final vote Friday – but all 14 Senate Democrats have stayed away from the Capitol for the last 8 days to block such a vote.
Republican Governor Scott Walker held a news conference in Kenosha to tell the senator for that community – Democrat Bob Wirch – to come back and do his job.
