Next best way: find a really good candidate for 2012, raise a few million dollars, and GOTV like crazy.

(That link doesn't show up correctly, so search for "recall house of representatives" and you'll probably find it. Basically it says that states cannot change the terms and conditions of office for federal officials. The Supreme Court has ruled on this.)

2. Find a good candidate like Paulette Garin.

She's a good progressive candidate. Of course, the Democratic Party, over the past election cycles against Ryan, have put up some unknown at the last minute. That's part of the reason I quit giving to the National Party and all it's affiliates. They gave us candidates that couldn't win against Ryan because no one ever heard of them.

3. The State party has had people on the ticket for the last

two election cycles. People other than Jeffrey Thomas. Marge Krupp worked hard to raise money in 2008, starting more than a year ahead of time.

The problem is, to run for office next year you need to start NOW, and do nothing else full time between now and the election except fundraise and run for office. How many people are in a position to do that? How many people already have a base of support which comes from having previously held office?

4. Check out Paulette Garin.

She's active in Single Payer Health Care right now. She had started early to raise money early the last time she ran. Someone in the Wisconsin Democratic Party needs to find a good position for her. She's very intelligent, photogenic, a great speaker and a very VALUABLE Wisconsin asset.

5. She lost the primary to Marge Krupp in 2008 withdrew from the race

last year. In order to win the seat you have to run for it.

8. Garin isn't that welcome anymore

Paulette could be a very effective speaker although she often
spoke waaaaay too long.

But she isn't that great a candidate - she seems to be
unwilling to raise money - she has this fantasy that a
congressional race could be won on $20,000 and a bunch of
volunteers.

Then she ticked off the local Democrats after she lost the
primary in '08 - she filed a complaint w/ the FEC about the
winner Marge Krupp that pretty much everybody considered to be
sore-loser type of stuff.  Aside from some paperwork
corrections, the FEC brushed it off.

Then in '10 she gave indications she was going to run, but
then remained incommunicado and never said she wasn't going to
run.

And then at the end of the filing period when there wasn't a
candidate, she went to the papers and said "They could
have had me if they had just gotten behind me".  Struck a
lot of people as rather narcissistic.  And ignores the fact
you have to EARN the support of the community, not demand it.

I don't think there would be a lot of support for her within
the party anymore.

This Rob Zerban could be interesting - has time, has some
money (although I don't know how much he's willing to put into
it).

6. Possible candidate

A diarist on dailyKos mentioned this person, who appeared at the Kenosha County party meeting this month: "The man we expect to contest Paul Ryan in 2012 is Rob Zerban."

Progressive Majority says this about him: Rob Zerban was elected a Kenosha County Supervisor in April of 2008. Rob is an enterpreneur who has started several food service companies in Illinois. He was recruited by our Kenosha County Task Force in July 2007 to run for this seat.

7. Search for scandals on him. That is your best hope for early departure.

9. Paul Ryan makes you appreciate less obnoxious republicans

like Tom Petri. Unfortunately I don't think any Republican is going to run against him. I don't think the seat is going to open up unless he leaves it voluntarily.

He's not going to be recalled and if there were going to be a scandal it would have happened by now. Still, its hard to think of another district in Wisconsin where the representative seems so at odds with the people he represents. At least Sensenbrener represents a lot of rich conservatives!

I can't fathom how the first district residents identify with Mr. Wall Steet. Do people understand the effects of his policies? Do they understand that he wants to destoy medicare?

10. Ryan will probably try for Kohl's seat or the White House

as a teabaggin' kkklucker saint.

11. Then that will be the time for us to tell the truth about him.

If the people in the first district have been asleep all this time, maybe they still won't get it. But the rest of the state isn't going to be happy sending another Ron Johnson to Washington.

I could see Republicans putting Palin and Ryan on a ticket together. The funny thing is he's actually a lot smarter than Palin, but she'd never take second place on a ticket again. She'd expect him to be the purty face who smiles and waves this time around. They'd have to duke it out. And I'm not sure he could put up with her silliness.
