Republicans lie to their own party

Green Bay Wisconsin -- Well the 30th Senate District Recall election has come and gone and the Democrats have a win in the victory column with 8 races remaining. It was not a surprise that Senator Dave Hansen (D) defeated David Vanderleest (R) in yesterday's contest. The margin of victory was the main focal point entering yesterday’s election as a precursor to the races to come. As the results came in showing Hansen commanding a nearly 70% vote total it became clear that the Democratic base is unified and energized as voters had to endure long lines and searing temperatures that reached 90 degrees.

There is an untold story about this election that many do not know and some republicans are wishing it not come out. It has to do with how John Nygren failed to meet the criteria of collecting enough nomination signatures to get on the ballot. The main stream media and many other bloggers were shocked to find out that Nygren failed to meet the required bar, but little did they know the Republican Party of Wisconsin was even more surprised.

Whether David Vanderleest knew it or not, he was a place holder candidate in the event something went wrong with Nygren's campaign. Now this may sound odd coming from me but I am going to give Vanderleest some credit here. His party abandoned him leaving him with little money and no public support and yet knowing his own legal history and possible pending issues, he stayed in the race. Scott Walker, Bob Cowles, Alberta Darling, Shelia Harsdorf, Dan Kapanke, Randy Hopper, Luther Olsen all had the opportunity to nudge David Vanderleest out of the race but decided to give their silent approval. Politiscoop attempted to get comments from each of these campaigns and all responded with no comment.

So in effect, they left Vanderleest deciding to either represent his party or be a quitter. But what happened to Nygren? Everyone focuses on his inability to sign his own nomination papers but coming up 2 signatures short? Well Politiscoop has the answers there. It turns out that the Republican Party has gotten so used to lying to the people that they have now begun to lie to their own base and party bosses. Yes, in fact, prior to the deadline of having to file the signatures with the GAB, Nygren was paid a visit by several Republican Party members who were sent to ensure everything was on schedule. They later returned to their bosses and claimed Nygren had some 600 signatures. But when the GAB took up the issue, it was just a few dozen over 400 and a final tally of 398 after challenges. Politiscoop has been told those Republicans who told a fib no longer work within the party. -- I'll leave it to you to decide if that is the truth or not. But if I were a Republican, I'd be questioning the things I am being told from party officials as it appears they have a propensity to prevaricate to their own people.

1. I'll take this win, particularly because of the lopsided result

Nothing builds success like success, everyone loves a winner. Coming in with roughly 70% of the vote is energizing, and the democratic voters in recall districts need to be energized to overcome fundraising disadvantages.

In the race between Dem Sandy Pasch and recall target Alberta Darling, Darling has raised a million dollars, twice the funds raised by Pasch. Yet, Pasch is running neck and neck or slightly ahead of Darling. You can bet with that kind of money the days before Aug 9th will have the ad market saturated with Darling ads.

Good morale and high voter turnout can reverse the Wisconsin trend of 'the candidate with the money always wins.' Hansen's landslide was terrific for us.

2. The people doing the Lassa recall lied about their numbers too.

Party hacks came to meet with them to "make sure everything was on track" too. But I wouldn't be surprised if they told the locals to lie.

Huge numbers of people were signing, they said. They were just busting down the doors of their little recall office to recall Lassa, they said. On track to hit our target a couple of weeks early, they swore.

Turns out it was all total BS.
