Wisconsin State Senator Jon Erpenbach says he is laying the groundwork for a Congressional campaign and has been talking with people about a run. It has a been a possibility in many people's minds ever since U.S. Senator Herb Kohl announced he will not seek re-election when his term is up next year. Tammy Baldwin, who represents Wisconsin's 2nd Congressional district, has not announced whether she plans to run for Kohl's seat, but if she does, Erpenbach says he will run to replace her.
Reached today in Washington, where he attended the ceremony honoring the Green Bay Packers for their Super Bowl Championship, Erpenbach says in "all likelihood" he will run. He's been considering the possibility ever since Kohl announced his decision in May, and has been laying the foundation and organizing a potential campaign team. He says he expects Tammy Baldwin to announce her intentions soon. When reached today, a representative for Baldwin says there is no update to her situation.

“He was very encouraging on my exploring a candidacy for Senate,” Baldwin said on the show, a statewide TV newsmagazine produced in conjunction with WisPolitics.com.
Feingold has said he plans to make a decision on a run by Labor Day.
