Kim Simac Campaign Illegally Coordinates with California Tea Party Extremists
Aug 11, 2011 Out-of-State agitators echo Simac’s radical agenda while breaking WI campaign laws
Rhinelander – State Senate candidate and self-proclaimed Tea Party leader Kim Simac’s campaign is in trouble with the law – again. Simac’s campaign flagrantly violated black-letter campaign laws prohibiting candidates and their agents from coordinating with independent expenditure groups like the Tea Party Express, which are working on behalf of a candidate. A complaint was filed late yesterday afternoon with the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board outlining the details of their law-breaking activities.
At a Tea Party Express campaign event in Rhinelander on Monday, the ‘independent’ organization coordinated with the Simac campaign to recruit volunteers and voters for the campaign. Tea Party Express staffer Judson Phillips exhorted the crowd to vote for Kim Simac and then introduced a Simac staffer who asked the crowd to sign up – with her – for Simac campaign phone-banking shifts. Tea Party Express staff then turned the stage over to Patrick Testin, Field Director for the Simac campaign, to plea for the crowd’s votes and volunteer efforts. A third Tea Party Express staffer then made another request that attendees sign up for campaign activities with the aforementioned Simac staffer.
“Whether it’s paying her own property taxes or following campaign finance regulations, Kim Simac has shown time and again she has no regard for the law and believes the rules simply don’t apply to her,” said We Are Wisconsin spokesman Kelly Steele. “This blatantly illegal coordination with extremists who came to Wisconsin and compared our state’s recall elections to the 9/11 terrorist attacks shown there’s no floor to how low Kim Simac will go.”
In addition, it was found that the Tea Party Express is not registered with the Government Accountability Board for election activities within the state of Wisconsin, likely making their activities on a recent bus tour illegal. This is not the Simac Campaign’s first violation of election law. Complaints have previously been filed for no less than twenty separate violations.
