Find way to let students vote
Our view: Find way to let students vote

LaCrosse Tribune Editorial
Posted: Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Unless you’re interested in discouraging voting in Wisconsin, the voter ID bill that begins Jan. 1 is tantamount to a jobs-preservation act — like redistricting — for the legislators who approved it.

The undemocratic measure requires a swift response by the universities and colleges of Wisconsin.

The new law will essentially make most college and university IDs useless for the purpose of voting in the state.

In other words, we educate students about their responsibilities in a democracy, we educate them to think independently, and then we tell them their student ID won’t pass muster at the polling places.

That’s how the alleged grown-ups define “disingenuous” for our best and brightest young people.
