Protester dumps beer on Rep. Robin Vos' head
By Sharif Durhams of the Journal Sentinel
Updated: Sept. 15, 2011 11:48 a.m.

Police are trying to find a protester who dumped a beer Wednesday night on the head of state Rep. Robin Vos (R-Burlington), who was with other lawmakers at a Madison tavern.

A report from the Madison Police Department identifies the victim as a 43-year-old state lawmaker from Burlington, a description that matches Rep. Robin Vos (R-Burlington), co-chairman of the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee. Vos' office confirmed he was the victim but would not say anything else about the matter, since it was being investigated by police.

The incident happened at the Inn on the Park, 22 S. Carroll St. Witnesses said a man came into the tavern and swore at three lawmakers, calling them criminals. A bartender said the man used the words to the effect of "money" and "damn Republicans," according to the police report.

Another man was recording the incident with a video camera when the bartender asked him to stop. That's when the person who had been yelling dumped the beer on Vos' head, according to the report.

The police report says beer splashed onto two other lawmakers, Rep. Scott Suder (R-Abbotsford) and Rep. John Nygren (R-Marinette).

Vos told police that the man has been harassing him since February, though previous encounters had not involved physical contact. The representative did not know the suspect's name, but a female State Capitol employee, who was with the group, gave police a name and said Capitol Police would have his contact information, according to the report. Police believe he's a 26-year-old.

Police said that when they find the beer pourer, he will likely face a tentative charge of disorderly conduct.

5. Pouring Miller Lite on a NeoCon Representative is kind of like
rinsing the dog off in Lake Mendota after he rolls in dead fish. Still stinks, but better.

9. Ooooohhh... Someone "violently" poured beer. So how does s/he know it's a Dem?

Could be a Socialist. And as our Rape-Publican friends like to remind us, those Socialists are PURE EVIL. They wouldn't hesitate for one second to "violently" pour a beer on someone.

10. The story on this is that a constituent/protestor who has been trying
to speak with Vos since February has been ignored. He's frustrated. He's been following him around. What he did is wrong and he will be charged with misdemeanor behavior, but ignoring someone who you are supposed to be accessible to is also inappropriate.

Racine native turns himself in for involvement in pouring beer on representative
...
He was allegedly accompanied by a man with a video camera, according to the police report. The bartender asked the videographer to turn it off. She said following the request, the suspect then allegedly took the glass of beer and emptied it onto the lawmaker's head. The suspect then fled, report said. Vos indicated the suspect has been harassing him since February, but up until this point, it had only been verbal, according to the report.

Kristan, who considers himself an independent, was arrested back in March for throwing a pink nightgown or "pink slip" at Vos during a Republican fundraiser at the Racine Marriott, 7111 Washington Ave. Kristan grew up in Racine and moved to Madison this winter to be a part of the protests. For a few weeks he lived in the Capitol and later in "Walkerville," the tent community outside the Capitol. He cooks at a Madison area restaurant, he said without being specific.

11. Analyzing the Brew-Ha-Ha at the Madison Capitol
The Proggressive

By Rebecca Kemble, September 16, 2011

On Wednesday night, activist networks were abuzz with news of the presence of Assembly Majority Leader Scott Suder, Rep. Robin Vos, co-chair of the powerful Joint Committee on Finance, and Rep. John Nygren at a local bar in Madison.

Earlier in the day, Vos had presided over a controversial committee meeting. The subject: The Department of Administration’s request for an $8.1 million disbursement for security costs incurred by counties and cities that responded to the mutual aid request from the Capitol Police during the massive protests and Capitol occupation in February and March. Vos and State Sen. Glenn Grothman, who famously referred to protesters as “slobs” last spring, both called into question the reimbursement request from the City of Madison.

Background: The inner side of the capitol square is under the jurisdiction of the Capitol Police, while across the street is under the jurisdiction of the Madison Police Department.

Claiming that Madison Police deployed on the city side of the divide were just doing their job in their own jurisdiction, and furthermore, noting that the Madison mayor and Dane County sheriff had both made statements opposing the legislation being rammed through the legislature, Vos and Grothman argued that Madison’s request should be carefully scrutinized to make sure the state was paying only for those officers who were on the capitol grounds proper.
