Metro Milwaukee lost 8,600 jobs in October, state reports

Nov. 23, 2011 1:52 p.m. | An estimated loss of 8,600 jobs in the four-county Milwaukee region accounted for most of the jobs that were lost last month in the entire state of Wisconsin, according to figures released Wednesday by the state Department of Workforce Development.

The monthly report showed that eight of the state's 12 biggest metro areas showed a net gain in non-farm jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis - with the biggest gain of 1,300 in Appleton. Of the four that showed losses, metro Milwaukee was by far the biggest loser.

Wausau lost 700 in the month; Eau Claire lost 500, and Fond du Lac lost 100.
